UNI's Mitchell to Run at World Championship for Trinidad and Tobago

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI freshman sprinter Onal Mitchell will compete at the IAAF World Track and Field Championship in Doha, Qatar, as a member of the national team for his home country of Trinidad and Tobago beginning on Sept. 27.
Mitchell will run as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team and have the opportunity to represent his country. The Island nation is at the south end of the Caribbean, just miles off the coast of Venezuela and has just over a million residents.
He departs on Sept. 27 and is scheduled to compete on Saturday, Oct. 5 in the qualifying rounds of the 4x400-meter relay at 12:25 p.m. Central (8:25 p.m. local time in Doha.) The meet will take place at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.
Mitchell is one of nine team members to represent the Trinidad and Tobago men's team at the World Championship, including former javelin gold medalist Keshorn Walcott.
He is the second current UNI track and field athlete to compete on the world stage this season, joining Jessica Heims, the F64 Para Athletics javelin world record holder. The Para Athletics World Championship will take place in Dubai on November 7-15.
