No. 18 UNI opens the season on the road against No. 20 Iowa State at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. Follow the links for full game notes and information.Â
• Panther Football opens the season against cross-state rival Iowa State to continue a series that dates back to 1899. The Cyclones lead the series 22-6-3, but UNI has won two of the last four meetings.Â
• The Panthers return 16 starters from last year's FCS Playoff team. Including eight on defense and eight on offense.Â
• First-Team All-Conference honorees Briley Moore (tight end) and Xavior Williams (defensive back) lead the way for UNI.Â
• Head coach Mark Farley is just one win away from the 150-win plateau. He is the winningest coach in UNI and Missouri Valley Football History and his next will make him the 10th coach in FCS history with 150 FCS victories.Â
• The Panthers will open the season with a new signal-caller after the graduation of three-year starter Eli Dunne.  Will McElvain will take the helm of the UNI offense with zero starting experience, but a load of talent on his side of the ball, including preseason All-American Briley Moore at tight end.Â
• A pair of injured Panthers return to the field in Isaiah Weston and Kris Kolarevic. Weston was a freshman All-American before injuries in the preseason a year ago and Kolarevic was the Panther's leading tackler before going down after week six.Â
• UNI returns its top six receivers from 2018, including Briley Moore (39 rec., 536 yds, 4 tds) Jaylin James (38 Rc., 400 yds, 3 tds), Deion McShane (36 rec., 482 yds, 2 tds), Nick Fossey (29 rec., 276 yds, 3 tds), Trevor Allen (25 rec., 256 yds) and Jalen Rima (21 red, 337 yds, 3 tds.)
• The Alumni Assoication and UNI Athletics will not be hosting a pre-game tailgate tent prior to the UNI vs. Iowa State football game and the UNI Marching Band will not be in attendance. We encourage our fans to get into the stadium early to cheer and be loud for our Panthers. We hope to see a lot of purple in gold in Jack Trice Stadium. Any questions please call 319-273-6443.
