Panthers Open Action at West Prelims

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Wal Khat finished 42nd in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:52.27 and Alanna Nietert finished 43rd in the hammer throw with a toss 176-feet-3 to highlight the first day of the NCAA West Preliminaries for the UNI Panthers.
Khat finished fifth in his heat, the top three in each heat advanced to the next round.
Nietert scratched her first and third throw but connected on her second for a throw. It was not enough to advance to the NCAA Championship in Austin, Texas.
UNI is back in action Friday. The Panther's highest ranked athlete at the meet is Isaac Holtz in the discus. He competes at 6 p.m. CT. Each thrower with gets three attempts and the top 12 throwers advance to Austin.
On the track, three Panthers compete. Cole Phillips and Connor Ham compete in the 110-meter hurdles and Evan Long will run in the 200-meter dash. For both of the running events, the first three in each heat and the top six best remaining times will advance to the quarterfinals.
The 110-hurdles is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and the 200-meter dash will begin at 9:55 p.m.
