Khat, Nietert Open Action for Panthers at NCAA West Regional

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI Track and Field team opens action at the NCAA West Regional Thursday with Wal Khat competing in the 800-meter run first round and Alanna Nietert throwing the hammer.
Khat enters the meet ranked 33rd out of 48 competitors in the region. The top 12 athletes in the region advance to the NCAA Championship in Austin, Texas. Khat will run in the fourth of six prelim heats. The top three from each heat, plus the next three fastest times advance to the quarterfinals.
Khat's time of 1:49.89 is the sixth-fastest time of the season of the athletes in his heat. The race is scheduled to begin at 10:35 p.m. CT.
Nietert is ranked 40th on the year with a throw of 58.71. She will throw last in the first flight of throwers. Each thrower gets three throws at the Regional and the top 12 throwers advance to Austin. The event is slated to start at 4 p.m.
Friday, Connor Ham and Cole Phillips compete in the 110-meter hurdle prelims to open the day on the track for the Panthers. Evan Long runs in the 200-meter dash prelims later in the evening and Isaac Holtz will throw the discus.
Saturday, the 4x100-meter relay team runs and the men's shot put will take place with Holtz, Darius King, Kyler Yodts and Keegan Tritle competing.
