
Panthers Go 0-2 on Against Salukis on Saturday

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI softball dropped both of its games to the Salukis on Saturday, by scores of 6-1, and 4-2.
Northern Iowa vs. Southern Illinois | Final Score – L, 6-1
Brooke Craig lasted an inning and two thirds, as she walked four and allowed four base hits, while striking out none. Three runs came across to score against Craig in her limited work on the mound.
Erica Oler came on in relief of Craig, pitching five and a third innings of three run ball, with a career-high six strikeouts. Oler walked one batter and allowed six base hits.
The sole UNI run in game one came on a Courtney Krodinger home run to left field. It was the seventh of the season for C. Krodinger, which extends her career high for a season.
Brittney Krodinger, Olivia Brooks, Adara Opiola and Jenny Kohl each recorded a base hit. Sammey Bunch reached on a walk in the bottom of the first inning. As a team, the Panthers left three runners on base in the game.
Northern Iowa vs. Southern Illinois | Final Score – L, 4-2
Jaclyn Spencer showcased her pitching stamina as she went 12 innings, while allowing four runs (three earned) on ten hits and five walks. Spencer struck out seven batters but was served her fourth loss of the season.
After trailing by two runs heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Panthers responded with two runs via a Kohl single up the middle that scored C. Krodinger and Ashley Chesser. The Cats loaded the bases on two walks and a base hit.
With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, Kohl dove and made a spectacular catch to keep the game tied heading into the latter portion of the frame.
Neither team would score until the top of the 12th inning, when the Salukis hit a two-run home run to give Southern Illinois the lead. The Panthers would be unable to rally and extend the game any further.
The Panthers walked eight times, which was two more base on balls for the team than there were base hits for UNI.
Following the game, seniors Brittney and Courtney Krodinger, Brooke Craig and Claire Dudek were honored and awarded with their diplomas, with President Mark Nook leading the ceremonies.

The Panthers will play a single game against the Salukis on Sunday, April 28 to close out the three game series. The game will be played in the UNI-Dome, with a 12:00 p.m. start time.
