Softball Splits Doubleheader with Bradley

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI softball split its doubleheader against the Bradley Braves on Saturday, dropping the first game, 9-1, before picking up a win in game two, 11-2.
Northern Iowa vs. Bradley | Final Score – L, 9-1
Emma Olejniczak pitched two and thirds innings, and allowed five runs (four earned), on five hits and a walk. Olejniczak struck out one batter, and now falls to 6-9 on the season.
Erica Oler and Hannah Kelley both worked in relief spots for the Panthers in game one. Oler allowed four base hits and walked a batter, giving up three runs. Kelley allowed one run to score in two innings on two base hits and a walk. Kelley struck out two batters in her short work on the mound.
The lone UNI run came in the bottom of the first, on a Sammey Bunch base hit up the middle, to score Brittney Krodinger. The Panthers would be held scoreless for the final six innings.
B. Krodinger and Ashley Chesser were the only UNI batters to record extra-base hits, finishing with one double apiece.

Jaclyn Spencer was dominant against the Braves in game two of the doubleheader, as she struck out 10 batters in five innings. Spencer allowed only four base hits, while walking two and giving up a two-run home run, as she picked up her fifth victory of the season.
It did not take the Panthers long to score, as they put up a four spot in the bottom of the first inning. Olivia Brooks singled into left field and drove home Bunch, and Courtney Krodinger followed with a groundout to score Bunch.
Chesser came up with a runner on and hit a two-run home run, for the first long ball of the day, and the first of three that she would hit in the game. Chesser also hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third, and a three-run jack in the bottom of the fourth inning. She finished the day with three runs scored, three home runs and seven RBI.
B. Krodinger, Bunch, C. Krodinger, Chesser and Valainis all finished with multiple hits in the game. Bunch, Chesser and C. Krodinger all came around to score two or more times, and B. Krodinger went 3-3 from the leadoff spot and she also had a double to leadoff the game.
Emma Valainis hit the walk-off two-run home run that sealed the victory for the Panthers, in five innings. The home run was Valainis' third of her career, and all three have come in the last week of play.
