UNI Softball Hosts Valparaiso for Weekend Series

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI softball returns home to face the Crusaders of Valparaiso in a three-game series this weekend.
The teams will play two games on Saturday and one game on Sunday. The first game of the doubleheader on Saturday is set for a 12:00 p.m. first pitch time, with the second game to follow immediately after. Sunday's game will begin at 11:00 a.m., barring unforeseen weather issues.
Last season, the Panthers took two out of three at Valparaiso, and outscored the Crusaders 12-3 in the last two games of the series. UNI is 7-1 all-time against Valparaiso, and the Panthers are 5-0 at home against the Crusaders. The Panthers had won the first five matchups against the Crusaders, before going 2-1 against Valparaiso in 2018.
Under head coach Ryan Jacobs, the team is 3-1 against Valparaiso. The Panthers have only played the Crusaders once at home, under Jacobs, and they won that matchup by a score of 6-0.
Sammey Bunch was named the MVC's Player of the Week this past weekend, for the second time this season, and the fourth time in her career. Bunch is second in the Missouri Valley in batting average (.433) and is first in slugging percentage (.933), runs scored (39), home runs (13) and total bases (97).
Courtney Krodinger has hit a home run in three of her last four games, and four of her career-high five home runs have come in the last six games. C. Krodinger's five home runs are more than her first three seasons (4) combined.
UNI is second in the Missouri Valley as a team with 37 home runs. The Panthers trail the Bradley Braves, who have hit 50 home runs as a team in 2019.
Following the series against Valparaiso, the Panthers travel to Iowa State to for an intrastate showdown with the Cyclones on April 16. The team will return home for eight straight games, including a showdown with the Iowa Hawkeyes at the tail end of the home stand.
