Northern Iowa vs. Southeast Missouri State | Final Score – L, 5-1
Brooke Craig got the start for the Panthers in their season opener but was unable to contain the Redhawks' offense early in the contest. Craig went three and two-thirds innings for the Panthers while giving up six hits and walking two batters. All five of Craig's runs given up were earned.
Craig's short evening allowed freshman pitchers Hannah Kelley and Erica Oler to get some work in on the circle. Kelley pitched two and a third innings while striking out one batter and giving up zero runs. Oler went one innings and did not allow a run either.
The offense was sparse for UNI in game one as they managed only a single run. Olivia Brooks and Jenny Kohl finished with two hits in four bats, each, while Tianna Drahn also gathered a base hit. Brooks drove in Kohl for the Panthers' sole run in the game.
Three UNI batters reached base on a walk. Courtney Krodinger, Ashley Chesser and Kohl found their way to the base path by way of a base on balls, but only Kohl came into score for the Panthers.
Northern Iowa vs. Toledo | Final Score – W, 5-0
Sophomore righty Emma Olejniczak cruised to a win while shutting out the Rockets over seven innings of work. Olejniczak struck out four in rout to the fourth shutout win of her career. Olejniczak was able to work her way out of trouble in the top of the seventh inning and stranded the bases to end the game.
B. Krodinger led off the bottom of the first inning with a single through the left side before stealing second. Following a Sammey Bunch flyout, Brooks walked before being stranded on base along with B. Krodinger.
The UNI bats began to heat up in the bottom of the third when B. Krodinger reached on a single up the middle. Bunch followed with a two-run bomb to left field that gave UNI the two-run lead. Brooks singled to right field in the inning but was unable to score.
The fifth inning proved to be the dagger in the heart for the Rockets, as UNI came away with a three-run inning to push the lead to 5-0. Drahn and Kohl both had singles in the inning before a double off the bat of B. Krodinger doubled the UNI lead to four. Brooks also had an RBI as she drove in B. Krodinger to give UNI the 5-0 lead.
The top three of UNI's batting order did major damage against Toledo as they finished with a total line of 7-10, with two home runs, five RBI, three runs and two walks.
B. Krodinger, Brooks and Kohl all finished with a stolen base. It was the second in two games for Kohl.
