The Panthers will begin their 2019 season at home in the UNI Dome as they host the annual UNI-Dome Classic on Feb. 8-10.
The schools joining UNI will be Drake, Saint Louis, Southeast Missouri State, South Dakota State and Toledo.
The Panthers match up twice with the Redhawks, which they defeated twice in last year's UNI-Dome Classic, by scores of 7-0 and 8-0. The first of two games between the teams begins 2:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, with the second game being scheduled for a first pitch 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. The Panthers are 7-9 in the all-time series with the Redhawks.
On Friday, UNI squares off with the Toledo Rockets, with the game set to start at 5 p.m. The Panthers last faced the Rockets in 2017, when UNI was able to run-rule Toledo 8-0 in six innings. In the all-time series, UNI has three wins over Toledo and no losses.
The Saint Louis Billikens will look to halt UNI's success in the all-time series between the teams, as the Panthers have dominated with 17 wins to just three losses. UNI dropped the last game to Saint Louis, but falling 7-2 in the 2016 season. The game has a start time of 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9.
To close out the 2019 UNI-Dome Classic, the Panthers will play the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State. UNI is 13-2 all-time against the Jackrabbits, with the last win coming in 2017 by a score of 5-2. The tournament finale is set to start at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10.
The Panthers will hold autograph sessions following the final UNI game of each day of the tournament.
UNI looks to rebound from a tough 2018 campaign that it finish with a .500 record. In the 2018 UNI-Dome Classic, the Panthers won their first four games before dropping the tournament finale, 4-3, to the UMKC 'Roos.
No outside food will be allowed in the Dome during the UNI-Dome Classic. The east side concession stand open 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday.
Admission to the UNI-Dome Classic will be $5 at the door.
