UNI Softball Travels to Oklahoma for OSU/Tulsa Invitational

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Panthers head south to Oklahoma to participate in the Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invitational from March 1-3.
UNI kicks off the weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma to play in the Tulsa portion of the tournament. The Panthers open up play against the University of Illinois on Friday at 12:00 p.m., with a game against the University of Tulsa to follow immediately. In the all-time series against Illinois, UNI is 0-1 with the sole loss coming in 2013, and the Panthers are 11-7 all-time against Tulsa.
The Panthers will play in Stillwater, Oklahoma for the final two days of the tournament. On Saturday at 12:00 p.m., UNI squares off with McNeese State University, who UNI is 0-2 against all-time. At 5:00 p.m. the Panthers play Oklahoma State, whom the Panthers have a 1-10 record against in the all-time series.
On Sunday, UNI closes out the tournament against Seattle University and Oklahoma State. The Panthers have never played Seattle before, and the first pitch time for that game is set for 9:00 a.m., with the Oklahoma State matchup starting immediately after.
The Panthers enter the weekend with a 6-4 record after finishing 3-2 in the Osprey/Dolphin on February 15-17. UNI has gone 3-2 in each of its first two tournaments of 2019, after starting the season 9-2 in 2018.
UNI is led by shortstop Sammey Bunch who kicked off the season with three home runs in three consecutive days. Bunch is the team leader in runs (12), extra-base hits (6), slugging percentage (.857), walks (6) and HBPs (3).
Outfielder Olivia Brooks, coming off of a 2018 second-team All-MVC selection, is batting (.545) after the first ten games. Brooks has collected (18) hits to go along with (8) RBI and a (.595) on-base percentage.
The Panthers' ERA leaders are freshmen Hannah Kelley and Erica Oler. Kelley carries a 2.62 ERA in 18.2 innings of work, and Oler has a 2.63 ERA in eight innings.
The last time that the Panthers played in Oklahoma was in 2017 at the Mizuno Classic. UNI went 3-2 and capped off the tournament with an 11-5 win over Oklahoma State.
Following the Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invitational, the Panthers travel to Murray, Kentucky to play in a tournament hosted by Murray State on March 8-10.
