Panther Women Roll Omaha 81-45

OMAHA – The UNI women's basketball team used a 19-0 run that spanned the third and fourth quarters to earn an 81-45 road win over Omaha Tuesday evening.
Four Panthers scored in double figures, led by Karli Rucker's 19 points and four assists. Christina Cavey tallied 11 points, Bre Gunnels went 6-6 from the free three-throw line and Rose Simon-Ressler was 5-5 from the field to score 10 each. Megan Maahs had four steals and a season-high three blocks.
The Panther opened the game with an 11-0 run and led 17-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Omaha went on a 9-0 second-quarter run to cut the lead to 24-21. UNI extended the lead to 33-28 at the half.
Omaha hit the first bucket of the second half to cut the lead to 33-30, but the Panthers hit back-to-back buckets to extend the lead to 37-30. The Mavs cut the lead to 47-38 with 4:57 to play in the third, but Omaha would not score again until the 8:37 mark in the fourth quarter and UNI built a 66-38 lead in the process.
The defense continued throughout the fourth and the Panthers pulled away for the 36-point win.
The Panthers were excellence from the field, shooting 28-55 (50.9) from the field and even better from the line, going 20-22 (90.9%).
The UNI defense held Omaha to 17-57 (29.8%) from the field and 2-31(14.3%) from the three-point line. UNI tallied nine team blocks for the game.
The Panthers scored 37 points off turnovers, 24 fast-break points and outscored Omaha 42-26 in the paint.
UNI is now 6-3 on the season. The win broke up a three-game losing streak for UNI, all three coming on the away from the McLeod Center and against major conference opponents.
NOTES
- Rucker's 19 points were the most points since scoring 21 points against Mizzou on Nov. 13.
- Nine blocks are a season-high for the Panthers.
- UNI had runs of 11-0 and 19-0 in the win.
- The Panthers outscored Omaha 48-17 in the second half.
- Rose Simon-Ressler was 5-5 on the night all five of her buckets were layups.
- The panthers shot over .500 for the second time this season. The first time came when UNI shot .525 against Iowa on Nov. 17.
- The Panthers had a season-high 15 steals.

The Panthers return home for the final home non-conference game of the season Sunday against IUPUI. UNI is 3-0 at home so far this season and will look to go undefeated at home in the non-conference for the second consecutive season.
