
UNI Track and Field Wraps Up Final Day at West Prelims

UNI Track and Field at the West Preliminary
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – UNI track and field wrapped up the final day of competition at the West Preliminary Round.
Connor Ham earned an automatic bid to the quarterfinals of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.20 seconds. Today, he finished 18th in a time of 14.10 in the quarterfinals.
Six Panthers competed in the men's shot put:
The men's 4x100 team of Ham, Isaiah Trousil, Corey Hertz and Tayshaun Cooper finished 18th in a time of 41.09 seconds.
Sarah Pate led the way for the Panthers in the women's hammer throw. She finished 23rd with a throw of 58.59 meters. Maddy O'Brien followed just behind her in 25th with a throw of 58.22. Alana Nietert rounded out the trio in 36th place and threw 55.18 meters.
JoJo Frost, Evan Long, Jacob Smith and Hertz joined forces in the 4x400 in a time of 3 minutes, 10.29 seconds.
The 2018 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Championships started Thursday and finish Saturday in Sacramento, California.
The top 12 competitors out of the East and West Prelims will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Championships held June 6-9, 2018, in Eugene, Oregon.
UNI will send Smith to Eugene, Oregon, in the 400 hurdles. Smith's personal best of 50.13 took the win in heat No. 3 and was the seventh-best time in the West Preliminary.
