Lorenz Claims Second at Drake Relays Heptathlon

DRAKE RESULTS

DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program continued its hot start at the Drake Relays on Thursday, as Panther sophomore Brooke Lorenz finished runner-up in the heptathlon.

Lorenz shined once again in the heptathlon, as the Panther finished runner-up at the Drake Relays after scoring 4,857 points. Lorenz finished second in the long jump with a mark of 17-10, before taking fourth in the javelin throw with a heave of 110-11 to hold on to her second-place finish in the heptathlon. Erica Loussaert turned in a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon, thanks to finishing first overall in the javelin throw with a mark of 119-0, while Lauren Frederick came in seventh and Chaley Rath claimed ninth to round out UNI's heptathlon competitors.

On the men's side for multi-events, Austin Heitland finished the decathlon in third, to earn the top slot for collegiate participants in the event. The Panther claimed a pair of top-5 showings in the 1500-meter and pole vault, after claiming third and fourth respectively.

Ben Ahlrichs claimed third overall in the 3000-meter steeplechase to close out UNI's top-5 finishes for Thursday.

UNI will be back at the Drake Relays on Friday, with a full day of action beginning with field events at 11 a.m. and track commencing at 12:15 p.m.

UP NEXT
Following this week's action in Des Moines, the Panthers will compete at the Wisconsin Twilight on Friday, May 4 in Madison. The Panthers will compete at the MVC Outdoor Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana on May 11-13.
