Panthers Cap Doubleheader with Walk-Off

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – The Panthers (22-21, 7-10) rallied back Saturday to split their game doubleheader against Indiana State (22-21, 9-9).
Northern Iowa Panthers vs. Indiana State Sycamores | Final Score – L, 4-2
UNI dropped game one of the doubleheader as Brooke Craig went all seven innings for the team.
Craig allowed four runs (three earned runs) on nine hits, while striking out four Sycamores. The loss was number nine for Craig on the season.
The Panthers troubles with runners on base continued in game one, as twelve UNI runners were left on base. After gaining the early lead on a two-run second inning, the Cats were unable to plate any more runs.
Brittney Roby had three hits and an RBI in the game. Sammey Bunch and Olivia Brooks also finished with multi-hit games, with two apiece. Tianna Drahn tacked on a base hit, as only four UNI starters finished with a base-hit.
The two-run second inning came on a Roby base hit to center field which scored Brooks. Bunch also walked in a run with the bases-loaded.
After giving up the lead, UNI was able to get its first two batters on base in the seventh inning, on consecutive walks. The Panthers, however, could not bring either run home.

Emma Olejniczak was the starter for game two in the Saturday doubleheader. Olejniczak went all seven innings, while allowing four runs (one earned run) and totaling one strikeout.
After struggling with command early in the game, Olejniczak was able to settle down, and retired 13 of 14 batters through the middle of her start.
Through the first five innings, only Roby, Claire Dudek, Ashley Chesser and Adara Opiola had base hits for the UNI offense. Bunch also reached base with a walk.
In the sixth inning, Kennedy Bailey was able to reach with a base hit to left field. She was promptly lifted for pinch runner Abby Downs. After a fielder's choice out off the bat of Brittney Krodinger, Brooks followed with a base hit to put two runners on. Drahn reached on an infield single, which brought up Chesser with the bases loaded.
Chesser was able to drive a double to the left field fence, which cleared the bases and tied up the game.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Sycamores were able to scratch a run across on a base hit to left fielder Roby, giving Indiana State the lead.
Bunch would tie it up in the bottom of the seventh on a long ball into left center field. The home run was number five on the season for Bunch. Brittney Krodinger would follow up with a two-out walk-off homer to straight center to give UNI the win.
UP NEXT –
The Panthers finish their series with the Sycamores on Sunday, April 22. The game will be played outside at the Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex in Cedar Falls. There will be no TV broadcast of the game on Sunday.
