Panthers Can't Complete Rally Against Bulldogs

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – The Panthers dropped both games of the doubleheader Tuesday, losing game one, 4-0, before suffering a close loss, 4-3, in game two.
Northern Iowa Panthers vs. Drake Bulldogs | Final Score – L, 4-0
The starter in game one of the doubleheader on Tuesday was Brooke Craig. Craig went all seven for the Panthers, while striking out six, and allowing six hits. The righty was a bit wild, walking six Bulldogs in the start.
The offense was unable to move a runner past second base, and the cats were shutout for the third consecutive game.
Sammey Bunch had two hits for the Panthers along with a stolen base. It was the 14th multi-hit game of the season for the UNI starting shortstop.
Ashley Chesser, Courtney Krodinger and Tianna Drahn were the only other starters who registered a base hit against Bulldog pitching. Olivia Brooks pinch-hit in the ninth inning and lined a single into left field. Adara Opiola was the only batter to reach on a base on balls.
The Panthers left seven runners on base, which was the same amount of runners left on as the Bulldogs. Both teams finished with six hits in the game.

Emma Olejniczak was the game two starter for UNI, but lasted only an inning and two-thirds. Olejniczak had difficulties finding the strike zone, walking seven batters and serving up two hits en route to three earned runs allowed.
C. Krodinger was called upon in relief, and fired five and-a-third innings while striking out two and giving up one run. It was the 10th pitching appearance of the season for the junior out of DeSoto High School.
The Panthers had back-to-back singles in the first inning, but a line-drive double play killed the Panthers' momentum, ending the first inning.
C. Krodinger walked and Claire Dudek lined a single to left field, but UNI was unable to drive either runner home.
Brooks and Drahn each had a hit in the next two innings, but again the Panthers' offense was held scoreless in both frames.
Back-to-back hits in the bottom of the sixth from Brittney Krodinger and Brooks, along with a base-on-balls to C. Krodinger to load the bases. Dudek would drive in a run on a single to first base, and Brittney Roby tacked on two more runs with a single to left field.
Ashley Chesser led off the bottom of the ninth with a line-drive to center, and was promptly lifted for pinch-runner Abby Downs. Olivia Brooks followed with a one-out single to the second baseman, but the next two batters were unable to bring Downs in to score.
The Panthers would drop the second game of the doubleheader to the Bulldogs, 4-3.
UP NEXT –
The Panthers will host the Indiana State Sycamores this weekend in the UNI-Dome. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday, and a single game on Sunday.
