Panther Women Wrap Up Day Two of MVC Tourney

NEWTON, Kansas - The University of Northern Iowa women's golf team is currently tied for sixth place at the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
UNI notched a team score of 296 today, tying their season-best and marking the third time this season that the Panthers have shot less than 300 at this specific golf course, Sand Creek Station. UNI has also recorded 23 birdies, which is the most in the tournament through the first two rounds.
With an overall team score of 616, the Panthers are tied with Loyola and sit ahead of Evansville, Valparaiso and Drake.
Senior Paige Van Dyk had an excellent outing this afternoon as she finished with a career-low score of 2-under (70). Van Dyk's previous career-low was 71, notching that in the opening round of the Whistling Straits Intercollegiate on Oct. 12, 2015.
Van Dyk's excellent performance was aided by five birdies, tying her for the most recorded birdies (7) of all the competitors through the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event.
Sarah McMichael stroked a score of 74 this afternoon, putting her overall score at 153.
Freshman Hannah Bermel improved from yesterday's 10-over (82) performance after recording her collegiate low of 73 today, while freshman Emily Snelling carded a score of 79 for the second consecutive round.
Snelling is also tied for second in the tournament on par-3 scoring with a 3.00 average through the opening 36 holes.
Maddie Bertsch finished the day 8-over (80), also matching her round one score.
The Panthers will play the final 18 holes tomorrow in hopes of bringing home a conference championship.
