UNI Softball Set to Face Purple Aces

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI softball continues its run of road MVC games as the Panthers head southeast towards Evansville, Indiana.

The Panthers (16-10, 1-1) enter the series against Evansville (7-18, 0-3) with a 1-1 (.500) record in the MVC after splitting their doubleheader against the Bradley Braves last Sunday. UNI was scheduled to play three games against Bradley, but the series was affected by the weather, and was shortened to two games.

Evansville has struggled early in the season and were unable to come away with a win in the Purple Aces' conference opening series against the Drake Bulldogs, last weekend. Evansville was shutout twice by Drake and scored a total of three runs the entire series.

Last season, the Panthers swept Evansville in Cedar Falls. UNI outscored the Purple Aces 24-6 in the three games, and two of those wins for the Panthers ended in run rules. The Panthers have won seven of the last eight matchups against Evansville. In the all-time series between the two teams, UNI has the advantage with a 41-25 (.621) series lead over the Purple Aces.

Following the series against the Evansville Purple Aces, UNI travels to Madison, Wisconsin to face off against the Wisconsin Badgers in a Tuesday matinee game at 2 p.m.

NEED TO KNOW –

Outfielder Brittney Roby continues to set the pace for the MVC on offense. Roby is the conference's leader in batting average (.466), on base percentage (.534), and hits (41).
Junior pitcher Brooke Craig has already set career-highs in virtually every pitching category, and entering the series with the Purple Aces, Craig is the team's leader in wins (8).
Catcher Ashley Chesser is tied for first in the MVC with a perfect fielding percentage. Chesser has yet to commit an error this season.
Under head coach Ryan Jacobs, UNI is 22-4 (.846) against the Evansville Purple Aces.
