Panthers Halt Losing Streak in Bruin Classic Opener

Cedar Falls, Iowa – The Panthers were able to break a streak of five straight losses, Friday night, in a win over the North Carolina A&T State University Aggies.
Northern Iowa vs. North Carolina A&T State University | Final Score – W, 4-1
Brooke Craig got the start for UNI, going seven solid innings and collecting her fourth win of the season. Craig came just short of a shutout, as she gave up one run in the top of the seventh inning. It was Craig's third complete game of the season, and she was able to set a career-high in strikeouts with nine. Craig allowed five hits and walked no batters in the game.
The UNI offense scored in the first inning on an Adara Opiola fielder's choice out, which allowed Brittney Roby to race home. In the fourth inning, Jenny Kohl came home to score on a Sammey Bunch groundout to shortstop, doubling the Panthers' lead. UNI scored two runs in the fifth inning, on a Abby Downs double to left field and a Kohl groundout to first base.
Roby recorded three hits against the Aggies, her sixth multi-hit game of the season. Bunch has driven in a run in eight of 16 games this season. Craig's complete game was the tenth of the season by a UNI pitcher.
UP NEXT –
The Panthers will face off against Butler University and Belmont University in a Saturday doubleheader in the Bruin Classic.
