Panthers Struggle on First Day of Bama Bash

Tuscaloosa, Alabama – The Panthers struggled in the Friday opener of the Easton Bama Bash, losing to both Florida State, 0-9, and Georgia State, 1-3.

UNI experienced its first double-loss day of the season, and the Panthers have lost four games in a row dating back to last weekend.

Northern Iowa vs. Florida State | Final Score – L, 0-9

Emma Olejniczak got the start in the first game of the Bama Bash for the Panthers, struggling in her first-career start against a ranked team. Olejniczak gave up her first earned runs of the season, and only lasted one-third of an inning. The freshman gave up five runs on four hits and one walk, while striking out one batter. Brooke Craig came on in relief of Olejniczak, pitching four and two-thirds innings, striking out five and allowing four runs to score.

The Panthers were unable to find any life in their bats against the Seminoles, which resulted in zero runners reaching first for UNI.

UNI will rematch with Florida State on Sunday in the final game of the Bama Bash for the Panthers.

Jaclyn Spencer started for the Panthers in game two of the Friday doubleheader, going seven innings for a complete game, and only allowing two earned runs. The effort by Spencer was not enough, however, as the sophomore pitcher took the loss. Spencer has now lost two straight starts for the Panthers.

The UNI offense continued to struggle, scoring one run on a Courtney Krodinger error by the Georgia State shortstop. The Panthers had six hits on the day, with three coming from senior Brittney Roby. UNI also had trouble driving in runners on base, leaving seven runners on in the game.

The Panthers will play against Georgia State again, in the first game of Saturday's Bama Bash slate.

UNI will look to bounce back on Saturday against Georgia State and Alabama.
