UNI Rolls Into Alabama for Weekend Tournament

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa softball team continues its run of out-of-state tournaments as the team heads to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to take part in the Easton Bama Bash.
The Panthers, enjoying early success in the 2018 season, will open the tournament Friday against Florida State (11:00 a.m. CT) and Georgia State (1:30 p.m. CT). The Saturday matchups for UNI will be Georgia State (11:00 a.m. CT) and the host team, Alabama (1:30 p.m. CT). The Panthers will close out the tournament on Sunday against the Florida State Seminoles (11:00 a.m. CT).
Florida State owns a 9-2 record coming into the Bama Bash. The Seminoles finished 55-8 (21-2 ACC) in 2017 and won their conference tournament. Florida State held the number one spot in the polls for eight consecutive weeks in 2017. The Panthers have had troubles in past matchups with Florida State, winning one game in eight matchups.
The Panthers of George State enter the Easton Bama Bash with a 5-6 record. In 2017, Georgia State finished with a 36-25 (18-9 Sun Belt) record before losing 9-8 to UT Arlington in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. UNI is 2-5 against Georgia State in the all-time series history.
UNI will square off with the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, a matchup that can be viewed on the SEC Network. Alabama is off to a 6-1 start in 2018. The Crimson Tide finished 45-16 (12-11 SEC) in 2017, before losing to Ole Miss in the SEC Championship Semifinals. The Panthers have yet to secure a victory over Alabama.
Following the conclusion of the Bama Bash, UNI will travel to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in the Belmont Tournament from March 2-4.
