Panther Women's Basketball Falls to Iowa 83-57

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The UNI Panther women's basketball team battled early, but No. 15 Iowa pulled away in the second quarter en route to an 83-57 win Sunday afternoon at Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.
The Panthers built a 12-7 lead to start the game before the Hawkeyes closed the first half on a 9-0 run to take a 16-12 lead into the second frame.
UNI opened the second quarter with a 10-2 run to retake the lead and build a 22-18 advantage, but Iowa responded with a 17-2 run to close the half for the 35-24 advantage at the break.
The Hawkeyes continued to push the pace in the second half as they pulled away for the 26-point win.
Karli Rucker led the way for UNI with 16 points and four rebounds. Freshman Cynthia Wolf notched a career-high 11 points on 4-6 shooting from the field and 3-5 shooting from the three-point line.
Iowa Center Megan Gustafson showed why she is one of the best in the country. She went 11-14 from the field for 28 points. She also added a game-high 12 rebounds. Three other Hawkeyes scored in double figures.
The Panthers were 22-62 (35 percent) from the field while Iowa went 32-60 (53 percent). The Hawkeyes held a 44-24 advantage in points in the paint and shot 17 free throws to just six for UNI.

The Panthers play two home games before Christmas. The Panthers host Minnesota State on Wednesday, Dec. 19 before the welcoming Nebraska-Omaha on Friday, Dec. 21.
