UNI Football Lands Ten on All-Conference Team

ST.LOUIS – Five UNI players were named the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Conference First Team, two were named to the Second Team and three Panthers received Honorable Mention honors when the 2018 All-Conference teams announced Monday by the conference.
Offensive lineman Cal Twait, tight end Briley Moore, defensive tackle Rickey Neal Jr., defensive back Xavior Williams and kicker Austin Errthum were named to the MVFC First Team. Duncan Ferch and Bryce Douglas earned second-team honors. Marcus Weymiller, Elias Nissen and Jackson Scott-Brown were named honorable mention All-Conference.
Twait, a team captain, is a four-year starter and played in his 40th career game against Lamar. He helped UNI rack up the third-most rushing yards in the Missouri Valley Conference and the third-best sack allowed average in the league. He was also named the MVFC Offensive Lineman of the Week after a stellar performance against Indiana State.
He is joined on the team by Moore who missed the final game after an injury in the game against Youngstown State. He leads the Panthers with 486 yards and four touchdowns. He tallied 60 or more yards receiving five separate times and scored four touchdowns. His best performance of the season was his 96-yard, one touchdown game against South Dakota State. Moore averaged 13.69 yards per reception this season and has 1,033 career receiving yards and five touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, Neal put together an outstanding senior season. He has a team-high 8.5 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss. He has forced a team-high three fumbles on the year, has seven QB hurries, is sixth for the Panthers with 53 total tackles and has a blocked field goal. He was on the MVFC Preseason All-Conference team.
Williams is tied for a team-best four interceptions for 113 return yards. He missed the Missouri State and Lama games because of injuries. He has seven passes defended and an interception returned for a touchdown that sealed the victory over South Dakota State which was the No. 4 play on the SportsCenter Top 10. He is also a key to special teams player for UNI where he has 16 kick returns for 400 yards. His season-long return is 55 yards.
Errthum has put up impressive numbers this season after entering the year battling for the starting job. He led the Valley with 18 made field goals in the regular season and added three more field goals in the FCS Playoff win over Lamar. He is 21-24 (87.5 percent)on the season and hasn't missed a field goal since the Western Illinois game. He is 34-34 in PATs and has 46 touchbacks on the year with an average of 63.6 yards and the highest net yards average in the MVFC.
On the second-team, Ferch is UNI's leading tackler on the year with 102 total stops, including 31 solo tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss. He is tied for the team lead four interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. He was named the MVFC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Panthers upset No. 2 South Dakota State.
Also honored was Douglas, the ultimate run stopper for UNI. He is second on the team with 11.0 tackles for loss including 2.5 sacks. He is tied for third on the team with 65 tackles. He has two pass breakups and a QB hurry.
Weymiller has a team-high 922 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. He also has 133 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Scott-Brown has been a force on the offensive line where he joins Twait on one of the best units in the MVFC.
Nissen has 10 catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns. He is a key blocker in the Panther rushing attack.
North Dakota State led the way with eight selections to the first team, but UNI and South Dakota State placed five each on the team. Illinois State, Western Illinois and Youngstown State all tallied three on the team.
The Panthers continue the season with a second-round game against UC Davis Saturday at 6 p.m. CT in Davis, California.
