Panthers Win Thriller Against NIU, 3-2

DeKalb, Illinois--The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team won a thriller tonight against Northern Illinois University, 3-2.
The Panthers (7-1) got on the board first in the 33rd minute on a header by Johnnie Hill. Hill, who has made an appearance in all eight games for the Panthers this season, nabbed her first goal of the season.
Senior Sarah Brandt would extend the lead to 2-0 in the 44th minute and scored her fourth goal this season.
Northern Illinois (3-3-1) would tie the game up with goals in the 45th and 77th minutes from Allie Fullriede and Lauren Neslund.
Brandt would score the final Panthers goal, off a header from Sydney Hayden in the final minute of action. Brandt scored two goals in the win and moves to 14 career goals as a Panther.
"I'm really proud of the girls tonight. They fought to the end and found a way to win," remarked head coach Bruce Erickson after the game. "All of the passes that led up to the winning goal were a team effort."
The Panthers outshot NIU 14-8, with seven of those shots being on goal.
The Panthers return home on Sunday, Sept. 17, playing host to the North Dakota Fighting Hawks at 1 p.m.

Regional Honors
The University of Northern Iowa earned regional honors in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, Midwest Region. The Panthers, who rank at #14, fell two spots from last week's poll. This is the first time in school history that the Panthers have earned a regional ranking.
NCAA rankings place goalkeeper Jami Reichenberger is in the Top-15 in three categories. Reichenberger in No. 3 in shutouts with 6, behind Milwaukee's Mallory Geurts, who leads. Reichenberger's .933 save percentage gives her a spot at No. 11. Reichenberger leads the MVC in those categories as well. With a goal against average of .286, Reichenberger lands at No. 13 on the NCAA list.
