Panthers Dealt Two Losses in Day Two of Louisiana Tech Classic

RUSTON, LA – The University of Northern Iowa softball team wrapped up day two of the Louisiana Tech Classic on Saturday, after playing Sam Houston State (4-8) and Louisiana Tech (10-4).

The Panthers (7-5) battled it out against Sam Houston State in the first game of the day.

Both teams were scoreless for the first two innings. UNI was the first to get a run on the board in the bottom of the third when Macey Wolfe singled into left field and brought home Courtney Krodinger.

It wouldn't be until the top of the sixth inning when more runs were added to the game. SHSU would score two runs to bring them to a victory win of 2-1.

UNI went head to head against Louisiana Tech for their second game of the day.

Tech started their lead early in the game, scoring one run in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the third, UNI lost their slight momentum when Marilyn Rozzato scored on a throwing error. Immediately following that run, two more Techsters reached home plate to bring their lead to 4-0.

The bottom of the fifth did not deem fruitful for the Panthers as Louisiana Tech scored three more runs to extend their lead 7-0. Tech was looking to end the game but Jenny Kohl was able to make an amazing defensive play to grab a second out, which led to extending the game into another inning.

Unfortunately, the Panthers were unable to score in the 6th inning and allowed one more Tech player to run in. The additional run ended the game due to the mercy rule of being up 8-0 in the bottom of the 6th.
