
MVC and UNI Records Fall at Day 3

IOWA CITY, Iowa--In the day of MVC action, the University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving team grabbed two B cuts, two MVC records and five school records in competition today.

The Panthers sit in third place, with 402 points.

In the 400 medley relay, the team of Katie Taylor, Veronica Herrmann, Crystal Florman and Aftin Phyfe nabbed two school records. Taylor's 100 backstroke swim, to lead off the relay, created a new school record at 54.68. The team would reset the UNI school record, timing in at 3:43.50.

Taylor continued to dominate in the pool, resetting the UNI and MVC records in the 400 IM. Taylor swam a time of 4:17.54 to grab the first place finish and an NCAA B Cut.

Florman made her mark in the 100 butterfly, creating a new UNI and MVC record with her preliminary time this morning. Florman also received a B Cut in the event, timing in at 53.86. Florman came back to win the event in the evening session, timing in at 54.21.

Herrmann swam into third place in the A final of the 100 breaststroke, timing in at 1:02.69. Moriah Ross nabbed a top-8 finish in the A final, swimming in at 1:03.73.

Molly Lembezeder nabbed second place and a new UNI record in the 200 freestyle, timing in at 1:49.80. Phyfe had a top-8 finish, swimming in at 1:51.53.

Rinaldi won the consolation final of the 100 backstroke, timing in at 56.76. Phyfe also competed in the B final, swimming in at 58.17.

"I swim with heart right now," remarked senior Aftin Phyfe. "I'm not going home with any regrets. We are such a family (the team) and always cheering for each other. That is such a huge part of UNI swimming and diving."

Kelsey Ostrowski swam a 58.38 in the 100 butterfly for a top-25 finish in the event.

Kylie Engstrom and Rachel Siebenaller competed in the B final of the 200 freestyle, swimming in at 1:51.53 and 1:52.61 respectively. Maya Appleton won the C final of the 200 freestyle, nabbing a time of 1:54.49.

Rinaldi and Stephanie Jackson both had top-16 finishes in the 400 IM. Jackson finished at 4:29.32, while Rinaldi timed in at 4:30.11.

Autumn Roepsch was the runner-up in the B final of the 100 breaststroke, swimming a 1:04.28. Olivia Knowles competed in the C final for a time of 1:05.28.

Abby Meyer and Lauren Kacmarynski competed in the C finals of the 100 backstroke, with times of 58.56 and 59.30, respectively.

"(We) couldn't have asked for a better start," remarked head coach Doug Humphrey. "We're getting strong swims out of everybody."

Diving

The UNI diving team advanced all three divers to the 3-meter finals tomorrow afternoon. Emma Billerbeck had a preliminary dive of 194.25. Deuso had a preliminary dive of 214.05 and Hannah Brummel rounded the Panthers out with a dive of 218.95.
