UNI Caps Non-Conference Slate at Kansas State

UNI GAME NOTES
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – With the Missouri Valley Conference slate on the horizon, the University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team (3-7) travels to Kansas State (8-2) on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT, seeking to close out the non-conference schedule on a high note.
Last season, the Panthers upset the then 24th-ranked Wildcats after an impressive 67-59 win over KSU at home. The meeting on Thursday will be the third all-time between the two programs, with the series tied at 1-1.

NEED TO KNOW
- UNI (3-7) caps the non-conference schedule with a trip to Kansas State (8-2) on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT.
- The Panthers upset the 24th-ranked Wildcats last season, after earning a 67-59 win over KSU at home on Dec. 22.
- Last time out, UNI dropped a 71-47 contest to No. 25 Iowa.
- Sophomore Megan Maahs led UNI with 12 points and 10 rebounds, to record her fourth double-double of the season.
- Maahs is the only MVC player averaging a double-double this season, with 11.1 points per contest while snagging 10.2 rebounds a game.
- Maahs has also earned a team-high eight games scoring in double-figures, while senior guard Kennedy Kirkpatrick is not far behind with six this season.
SERIES WITH KANSAS STATE
- UNI and Kansas State have split their only two meetings on the hardwood, with the Panthers taking the most recent matchup last season in Cedar Falls.
- The Panthers downed the then No. 24 Wildcats, 67-59 on Dec. 22, 2016.
- The ranked win for UNI was its first since 2014 and its third over a non-conf. foe since 1992.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
- Kansas State enters Thursday's game with an 8-2 record on the year.
- The Wildcats are winners of their last three games, while only dropping contests to ranked UCLA (#5/4) and Missouri (#19/18).
- KSU is fresh off a 99-point outing against Chicago State on Monday night, with the Wildcats scoring their highest-point total since Dec. 13, 2015.
- Freshman guard Rachel Ranke scored a career-high 24 points on seven made 3-pointers against Chicago State, to lead KSU to victory.
- Junior guard leads KSU with a 15.6 scoring clip this season, while dishing out 6.8 assists per game which tops the Big 12.
DEFENDERS OF WARREN
- UNI is 134-20 under the direction of head coach Tanya Warren when holding an opponent to 60 points or less.
- Five of UNI's top-10 scoring defense averages in school history have come during the Warren era, while the Panthers ranked second in the Valley last season after holding opponents to 58.3 points per game.
- UNI was 19-0 in 2016-17 when holding foes to 60 points or less, so far this season the Panthers are 2-3.
PANTHER SHARP SHOOTERS
- UNI has knocked down 70-of-235 (29.8%) from 3-point land this season.
- The Panthers are averaging 7.0 made 3-pointers a game.
- Last season, the Panthers shot 250-848 (29.5%) from beyond the arc to average 7.6 made 3-pointers a game.
- Senior Kennedy Kirkpatrick and freshman Nicole Kroeger have each drained 11 shots from beyond-the-arc to lead the Panthers.
UNI CONTROLS THE GLASS
- This season, the Panthers rank fourth in the MVC with 2.0 rebounding margin over foes.
- UNI has outrebounded six foes this season, with the highest margin of 18 coming against Wyoming earlier in November.
- When outrebounding teams this season, UNI is 2-4 on the season.
- The Panthers are averaging 39.1 rebounds per contest, which ranks third in the MVC.
UNI'S STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE RANKS NO. 11
- This season, the Panthers have played one of the toughest schedules in the country, ranking No. 11 in the nation.
- The next closest MVC member is Drake at No. 42.
- Overall, past opponents this season have earned a 52-25 record.
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT AT UNI
- Freshman Nicole Kroeger earned a career-high 19 points against UW-Parkside, while receiving her third-straight start for the Panthers. So far this season, Kroeger has earned four starts and is averaging 4.5 points per game.
- Fellow freshman Karli Rucker has started for UNI twice this season. Rucker's career-high came against Nebraska Omaha after her 13-point outing against the Mavericks.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
- Sophomore Megan Maahs is the only Panther to record a double-double for UNI this season, logging four on the year.
- For her career, Maahs has earned five double-doubles as a Panther. The sophomore has earned the last five double-doubles for UNI.
- The sophomore is 26th in the nation with 7.2 defensive rebounds per game, while ranking 30th in the NCAA for total rebounds per contest at 10.2.
- In the MVC, Maahs tops the league this season in rebounds per game (10.2), defensive rebounds per game (7.2) and most double-doubles (4).
