UNI GAME NOTES
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – After an impressive victory last time out over UW-Parkside, the University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team (3-6) prepares for a Sunday battle against No. 25 Iowa (10-1) at 2 p.m. CT.
The game will mark UNI's last non-conference home game, with the Panthers hitting the road for Kansas State on Dec. 21 before beginning the MVC slate at home against Loyola-Chicago on Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. CT.

NEED TO KNOW
- UNI faces its first Top 25-foe of the season in No. 25 Iowa (10-1) on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT.
- The Hawkeyes are on a 10-game win streak over the Panthers.
- The last time Iowa had a 10-game win streak over UNI, the Panthers snapped it with a 83-62 win over the Hawkeyes on the road in 2006.
- Last time out, UNI earned a 92-62 win over UW-Parkside. The 92 points were the most by any UNI squad since the Panthers scored 99 against Drake on March 2, 2014.
- Freshman Nicole Kroeger earned a career-high 19 points against UW-Parkside, while receiving her third-straight start for the Panthers.
- Over those last three games, Kroeger has averaged 12.0 points per start.
- Sophomore Megan Maahs tops the MVC in rebounds per game (10.2), while ranking 29th in the NCAA. The sophomore's 7.0 defensive rebounds per game ranks first in the MVC and is 24th in the NCAA.
SERIES WITH IOWA
- The Panthers and Hawkeyes have met 22 times on the hardwood, with Iowa owning a 20-2 record over UNI.
- The last win for UNI came on Dec. 19, 2006 in Iowa City, after the Panthers took an 83-62 decision over the Hawkeyes.
SCOUTING THE HAWKEYES
- Iowa earned its first national ranking in more than two years, after the Hawkeyes came in at No. 25 this past week.
- Iowa is off to a 10-1 start for the first time since 2013-14, while a win on Sunday would give the Hawkeyes their best start since 2010-11 (12-1).
- The Hawkeyes have defeated four teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season (Quinnipiac, Western Kentucky, Elon and Iowa State).
- As of Dec. 12, Iowa's RPI is No. 22 overall, the third highest in the Big Ten.
- Iowa has four players averaging double figures this season, with Megan Gustafson leading the way with 21.5 points per game.
DEFENDERS OF WARREN
- UNI is 134-20 under the direction of head coach Tanya Warren when holding an opponent to 60 points or less.
- Five of UNI's top-10 scoring defense averages in school history have come during the Warren era, while the Panthers ranked second in the Valley last season after holding opponents to 58.3 points per game.
- UNI was 19-0 in 2016-17 when holding foes to 60 points or less, so far this season the Panthers are 2-3.
PANTHER SHARP SHOOTERS
- UNI has knocked down 62-of-205 (30.2%) from 3-point land this season.
- The Panthers are averaging 6.9 made 3-pointers a game.
- Last season, the Panthers shot 250-848 (29.5%) from beyond the arc to average 7.6 made 3-pointers a game.
- Freshman Nicole Kroeger leads UNI with the most made 3-pointers on the team this season, knocking down 11 shots from beyond-the-arc.
UNI CONTROLS THE GLASS
- This season, the Panthers rank second in the MVC with 3.3 rebounding margin over foes.
- UNI has outrebounded six foes this season, with the highest margin of 18 coming against Wyoming earlier in November.
- When outrebounding teams this season, UNI is 2-4 on the season.
- The Panthers are averaging 39.8 rebounds per contest, which ranks third in the MVC.
PANTHERS POUR ON THE POINTS
- UNI scored a season-high 92 points against UW-Parkside last time out.
- The 92 points were the most by any UNI squad since the Panthers scored 99 against Drake on March 2, 2014.
- The Panthers have now scored 90 points or more in 29 total games all-time, with four of those coming under head coach Tanya Warren.
- The highest point total for a Warren-coached squad is 99 points, which has been achieved twice during her tenure. The first coming against Southern Illinois on Jan. 7, 2010 (99-57) and the last against Drake on March 2, 2014 (99-97, OT).
- UNI's 107-80 win over Creighton on Feb. 20, 1990 remains the school's record for most points scored in a game.
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT AT UNI
- Freshman Nicole Kroeger earned a career-high 19 points against UW-Parkside, while receiving her third-straight start for the Panthers. Over those last three games, Kroeger has averaged 12.0 points per start.
- Fellow freshman Karli Rucker earned her first-career start last time out, while pouring in nine points. Rucker's career-high came against Nebraska Omaha after her 13-point outing against the Mavericks.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
- Sophomore Megan Maahs is the only Panther to record a double-double for UNI this season, logging three on the year.
- For her career, Maahs has earned four double-doubles as a Panther. The sophomore has earned the last four double-doubles for UNI.
- The sophomore is 24th in the nation with 7.0 defensive rebounds per game, while ranking 29th in the NCAA for total rebounds per contest at 10.2.
- In the MVC, Maahs tops the league this season in rebounds per game (10.2), defensive rebounds per game (7.0) and most double-doubles (3).
