Panthers Begin Road Stretch at Creighton

UNI GAME NOTES
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team (1-1) will begin a six-game road swing starting on Tuesday, as the Panthers travel to Omaha, Neb., to face Creighton (2-1).
The Panthers and Bluejays will tip off at 6 p.m. CT from the Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb. The road game will be UNI's first of the season.

Tuesday's game at Creighton will not be televised. Fans can listen to the game, with Chris Kleinhans-Schultz on the call, by visiting here or tuning in to KXEL/1540-AM.

NEED TO KNOW
- UNI hits the road for the first time this season, as the Panthers begin a six-game road swing starting at Creighton.
- The Bluejays lead the all-time series over the Panthers, 36-17.
- UNI's last win over CU came in 2016 when the Panthers downed the Bluejays 50-49 in Cedar Falls. The victory snapped a six-game losing skid against CU.
- Head coach Tanya Warren is 5-11 overall against her alma matter.
- Last time out, UNI defeated Iowa State at home 57-53. The win broke a 15-game losing streak to the Cyclones. UNI's last win over ISU was a 65-58 victory that came in 2002.
- Senior Kennedy Kirkpatrick led the Panthers with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting. The game also marked Kirkpatrick's second-career start for the Panthers.
- Junior Ellie Howell matched Kirkpatrick's 17 with 17 of her own, after shooting 7-of-16 from the field.
SERIES WITH CREIGHTON
- UNI and Creighton have met 53 times on the hardwood in women's basketball, with the Bluejays owning a 36-17 advantage.
- Last season's win over the Bluejays snapped a six-game losing skid to CU.
- The win in 2016 was a 50-49 thriller, with Madison Weekly and Megan Maahs scoring 12 points each to lead the Panthers past the Bluejays at home.
- Overall, the Panthers have only won three times against the Bluejays in Omaha. The last road win came on Jan. 13, 2011 when CU was still a member of the MVC.
SCOUTING THE BLUEJAYS
- Creighton finished last season 24-8 overall and earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament, advancing all the way to the second round.
- So far this season, the Bluejays are 2-1 after wins over Wichita State and Nebraska, with their lone blemish coming at the hands of South Dakota.
- The Bluejays are shooting 44.1% from the field, while holding opponents to 37.6% from the field.
- Junior forward Audrey Faber leads CU this season, scoring 15.0 points a contest.
- Sophomore guard Olivia Elger is not far behind with 12.0 points per game.
DEFENDERS OF WARREN
- UNI is 133-18 under the direction of head coach Tanya Warren when holding an opponent to 60 points or less.
- Five of UNI's top-10 scoring defense averages in school history have come during the Warren era, while the Panthers ranked second in the Valley last season after holding opponents to 58.3 points per game.
- UNI was 19-0 in 2016-17 when holding foes to 60 points or less, so far this season the Panthers are 1-1.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
- Sophomore Megan Maahs turned in quite the performance to open the season, as she hauled in a career-high 16 rebounds and chipped in 10 points to earn her second double-double as a Panther.
- Maahs last earned a double-double after finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds against Bradley on Jan. 15, 2017.
WARREN IN THE VALLEY
- Head coach Tanya Warren is fifth all-time wins in the Missouri Valley Conference, with 118 league victories under her belt. Warren is behind Creighton's Jim Flanery (2003-13) who owns 131 wins.
- Overall, Warren's 187 wins are tied for sixth all-time in the Missouri Valley Conference with Lisa Bluder (1991-00) of Drake.
ALL WE DO IS WIN
- The 2016-17 season marked the eighth-straight season the Panthers have won at least 17 or more games.
- The win total also marked the 15th season since the women's basketball program joined NCAA Division I basketball in 1982 that the Panthers have achieved at least 17 wins.
- Tanya Warren now owns eight seasons with at least 17-plus wins or more in a season, which is more than all other coaches at UNI combined.
PRESEASON RECOGNITION
- UNI was selected to finish third in the MVC before the start of the 2017-18 season.
- The Panthers have been voted in the top-half of the MVC Preseason Poll in all but one of head coach Tanya Warren's seasons at UNI.
- Redshirt junior Ellie Howell was selected to the Preseason All-MVC squad.
PANTHER CUBS
- UNI welcomes five true freshmen to the roster this season, with one lone senior leading the pack in Kennedy Kirkpatrick.
- Karli Rucker, Nicole Kroeger, Bre Gunnels, Riley Wheatcraft and Marissa Robson make up the five freshmen for UNI.
- That total is the most since 2015-16's six true freshmen, that squad earned a 24-11 record while advancing to the third round of the WNIT.
