CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI wrestling kicks off its dual season with two weekend matchups, including a home meet against North Dakota State.
All teams are 0-0 headed into this weekend. North Dakota State will face No. 8 Iowa Friday night. UNI will honor head coach Doug Schwab's first Panther All-American at Sunday's dual as the honorary captain. David Bonin was fourth at the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.

CANCER CLINIC
UNI will open Sunday with a clinic to benefit a family who lost their daughter to cancer last week. Evie Mae Mueller died on her 4th birthday. The wrestling clinic in West Gym is open to youths eighth grade and younger.Check in starts at 11 a.m. The clinic will be from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For $25, youths will receive a T-shirt, a meal and entry to the dual meet against NDSU at 2 p.m. that day. Parents must purchase their tickets prior to the day of the clinic if they are attending the NDSU meet.
Walk-up registration is welcome. Some donors have sponsored spots for those unable to pay the fee. Email richardr@uni.edu to register.

125 pounds- No. 16 Jay Schwarm (So, 7-0) – Knocked off returning NCAA qualifier Brock Hudkins of Northern Illinois to win Harold Nichols. Swept the Grand View Open with four falls.
- No. 25 Mike Russo (So, 4-0) – Won his opening tournament and has notched one fall.
- Paul Bianchi (RFr, 3-1) - Advanced to the 121-pound championship at the 2017 UWW Junior Freestyle National Championships
133 pounds
- Jack Wagner (RFr, 3-2) – After taking a redshirt year at Iowa, he transferred to UNI. Took fourth at the Harold Nichols Open to open his season.
- Chaz Tucker (Jr, 3-2) or Noah Baughman (So, 3-2) – Tucker was a two-time prep national champion. Baughman has one major decision win this year.
- No. 12 Cam Sykora (So, 1-0) or McGwire Midkiff (Fr, 5-3) – Sykora earned a spot at the 2017 national championships after taking third at the Big 12. Midkiff is a four-time state place winner at the Iowa prep championships
141 pounds
- No. 12 Josh Alber (Jr, 4-0) – The two-time NCAA qualifier moved up a weight from 133 pounds and opened the season with a Grand View Open title.
- No. 13 Yianni Diakohimalis (Fr, 5-0) – He is one of just seven New York state champions as a prep, closing his career with a 210-match win streak, a state record. He went 243-3 overall in high school.
- Sam Hampton (RFr, 4-0) or Nico Colunga (So, 4-2) – Both wrestled unattached last year and posted 4-6 and 8-6 records, respectively.
149 pounds
- No. 3 Max Thomsen (So, 4-0) – He is UNI's highest-placing returning All-American after taking fifth last year at nationals. He opened his season with an exhibition win over No. 5 Matthew Kolodzik and followed up with a Grand View Open title.
- Jonathan Furnas (Jr, 4-1) – Took sixth at the 2017 EIWA Championships and wrestled in seven duals last season.
- Kyle Gliva (Sr, 4-1) Mitch Bengston (Sr, 3-1) – Gliva won a pair of tournaments last year. Bengston lost last season to injury.
157 pounds
- Paden Moore (So, 5-0) – Injury forced Moore to forfeit his final matches of the 2017 season, but he still picked up an eighth-place finish at the MAC Championships. He grabbed a fall and major decision en route to a 2017 Grand View Open title last week
- Joey Galasso (Jr, 3-2) or Kyle Simaz (Jr, 2-2) – Galasso missed much of 2017 due to injury. Simaz wrestled two duals last season, dropping both to top-eight opponents.
- No. 16 Clay Ream (Sr, 4-0) – The three-time NCAA qualifier earned the 2017 Elite 90 Award with a 4.0 GPA. He went 0-2 at last year's championship.
165 pounds
- Dan Kelly (So, 3-1) or Isaiah Patton (So, 6-3) – Kelly competed in one dual last year for the Panthers last year at 157 pounds. He took second at this year's Harold Nichols Open. Patton won the only dual he competed in last season, and took third at this Harold Nichols Open this year.
- Jon Jay Chavez (Jr, 5-0) or Milik Dawkins (So, 3-2) – Chavez hasn't wrestled a dual since his true freshman year, losing to No. 3 Nathaniel Brown of Lehigh. Dawkins moved down a weight last year to 165 pounds, notching a 13-6 record between two weights.
- No. 16 Andrew Fogarty (So, 9-1) – The returning NCAA qualifier went 1-2 at the championships last year.
174 pounds
- No. 8 Taylor Lujan (So, 7-0) – One of six returning NCAA qualifiers, he was the only Panther to win a MAC title last season. He already has two open titles (Harold Nichols and Grand View). He has earned bonus points in five of his matches.
- No. 6 Brandon Womack (Jr, 5-0) – The All-American moved up a weight after finishing eighth at 165 pounds at the 2017 NCAA Championships.
- Dylan Urbach (Jr, 0-0) or Charley Popp (Jr, 0-0) – Urbach went 2-2 at the 2017 Big 12 Championships. Popp compiled an 8-3 record in 2017 prior to an injury.
184 pounds
- No. 4 Drew Foster (Jr, 3-0) – Took seventh in 2017 to earn All-America honors at his first NCAA national championship. He was edged out 5-2 by No. 3 Pete Renda in an exhibition match to open the season. Notched two tech falls en route to a Grand View Open title.
- No. 17 Max Dean (Fr, 5-0) – The two-time Michigan state prep champion was 41-0 at 189 pounds his senior
- year.
- Tyler McNutt (Jr, 3-2) – Took sixth at the 2017 Big 12 Championships.
197 pounds
- No. 15 Jacob Holschlag (So, 0-0) or Izaak Shedenhelm (RFr, 4-3) – Moved up a weight midseason last year and earned a spot at the NCAA championships. Shedenhelm took third and fifth in his opening tournaments this year.
- Ben Darmstadt (Fr, 3-1) – Won two titles as a prep at the Ohio state championships. Â
- Cordell Eaton (So, 3-0) – Took sixth at the 2017 Big 12 Championships.
285 pounds
- No. 24 Carter Isley (RFr, 8-0) – won his second Grand View Open title last week that included a win over NAIA runner-up Dean Broghammer.
- No. 18 Ben Honis (Jr, 4-1) - Ranked at 197 pounds, he is a returning NCAA qualifier and went 1-2 in his first NCAA appearance last year.
- Brandon Metz (Fr, 8-2) or Dan Stibral (So, 4-0) – Metz is a three-time state champion as a prep in North Dakota. He was runner-up as a freshman. Stibral compiled an 8-6 record last year.
MEET AND GREET
The Panthers will be at Peppers Grill and Sports Pub from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 20. This event gives fans the opportunity to meet the team.Â
BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS
Tickets for the 2018 Big 12 Conference Wrestling Championship go on sale 10 a.m. CT Nov. 17. The all-session tickets include all four sessions of the championship set for March 3-4, 2018, at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Â
In 2017, the BOK Center set a Big 12 Conference attendance record when more than 15,000 people attended the two-day event.

Last year, the Oklahoma State Cowboys won their fifth consecutive team title, and their 15th Big 12 title overall. Oklahoma State will be joined by Big 12 members Iowa State, Oklahoma, and West Virginia, along with affiliate members Air Force, Fresno State, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, UNI, South Dakota State, Utah Valley, and Wyoming.
