UNI Wrestling Signs Cayd Lara, Kyle Biscoglia

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI wrestling and Doug Schwab picked up two more nationally ranked wrestlers for the 2018-19 roster.

Cayd Lara of Fort Dodge and Waukee's Kyle Biscoglia will hit the mat for UNI next season.

Biscoglia is a two-time state champion, with wins at 106 pounds as a sophomore and 113 pounds as a junior in Class 3A.

He is ranked No. 14 in the nation at 120 pounds by Intermat. He is No. 9 on IAWrestle's Fab50 list. In addition to his second state title, Biscoglia is coming off a win at the USAW Preseason Nationals at 120 pounds.

At the Iowa/USA Junior Freestyle tournament, he won at 113 pounds in 2016 and was second last year at 113 pounds. He won the cadet division in 2015 at 100 pounds. Other honors:

He is a two-time Academic All-State in 2016 and 2017 and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is an active member of St. Boniface Church in Waukee and participates in numerous service activities.
Biscoglia is the son of James and Sarah Biscoglia and has two younger siblings, Kelly and Katie. He also was recruited by Iowa State, Nebraska, Maryland, Virginia, Old Dominion, Northwestern and Gardner-Webb. He plans to major in biology.

Lara is ranked No. 20 in the nation at 152 pounds by Intermat. He is No. 14 on IAWreste's Fab50 list.

The three-time Iowa High School State medalist is coming off a win at 152 pounds at the USAW Preseason Nationals.

Lara was second at the state tournament in class 3A at 152 pounds. As a sophomore, he took eighth at 145 pounds. He finished seventh at 132 pounds as a freshman in 2015.

The senior has placed in the top five at in the state Greco Roman and freestyle championships. Last year he won the Iowa/USA Junior Greco state tournament and was third in the freestyle division.

In 2016, he won the Iowa/USA Junior Greco State Championships and was fifth in freestyle. In 2015, he took second at the cadet level at 145 pounds in the Iowa USA Kids/Greco and Freestyle state championships.

A three-sport athlete, Lara also competed in baseball and football. Lara participates in community service with his wrestling team. He also was recruited by Iowa State, Ohio State and Grand View.

Lara is the son of Nick and Jamie Lara. His brother, Triston, is a freshman on the UNI wrestling team.
