UNI Wrestling Signs 3x State Medalist Esmoil

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Doug Schwab and UNI wrestling signed three-time Iowa high school state medalist Bryce Esmoil for the 2018-19 roster.
Esmoil of West Liberty, Iowa, recorded just two losses last year, Esmoil was able to capture a state title at 195 pounds in the Class 2A. He was the first state champion since 2000 for West Liberty, winning his title match with a 15-0 tech fall in 3 minutes, 45 seconds.
He was third as a sophomore at 195 pounds and seventh as a freshman at 195 pounds. He is ranked No. 15 in the nation by Intermat at 195 pounds and is No. 12 on IA Wrestle's Fab50.
He won the 2016 Iowa/USA Junior Freestyle Championships at 220 pounds. In 2015, he won the Iowa Kids/Cadet Greco and Freestyle divisions at 195 pounds and won the USAW/CK Junior/Cadet Folkstyle Championship. He was second in 2014 at USAW Preseason Nationals at 220 pounds. Â
Already the record holder for the most career wins at West Liberty, he continues to build on that mark. Esmoil is a four-sport athlete earning letters in football, wrestling, track and field and baseball. He took sixth in the discus at the Iowa High School State Track and Field Championships in 2016.Â
Esmoil has been on the honor roll every year since starting high school. He assists a youth wrestling program as a volunteer and also was recruited by Iowa, South Dakota State, Grand View and Coe.Â

Esmoil will join New Hampton's Michael Blockhus and Noah Glaser on next year's team.
