
Swimming and Diving Defeats the Duhawks and Tritons

CEDAR FALLS--The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving team defeated both the Iowa Central Tritons, 134-77, and the Loras College Duhawks, 135-67.

Freshman Katie Taylor nabbed two first place finishes in the win over the Duhawks and Tritons. Taylor swam to first place in the 1000 freestyle, timing in at 10:41.44. Taylor would be back in action in the 100 freestyle, nabbing a time of 53.41.

Moriah Ross grabbed a first place finish in the 400 IM, swimming to a time of 4:46.47.

In the 200 freestyle, Kylie Engstrom also received a first place finish. Engstrom swam to a time of 1:56.84.

Junior Rachel Siebenaller grabbed first place in the 50 freestyle, swimming a time of 25.19.

Crystal Florman would take first in the 200 butterfly, timing in at 2:17.05.

Senior Aftin Phyfe would swim to first place in the 500 freestyle, with a time of 5:14.77.

Autumn Roepsch captured first place in the 200 breaststroke, timing in at 2:27.79.

Mariah Holmes would finish in second place in the 200 backstroke, timing in at 2:18.35.

Minutes after winning the 200 breaststroke, Roepsch anchor the winning relay in the 200 freestyle. Roepsch paired up with Taylor, Molly Lembezeder and Abby Meyer for a 1:40.51 finish.

The 200 medley relay team of Lauren Kacmarynski, Roepsch, Florman and Savannah Jensen nabbed first place for a time of 59.48.

"It was a fun meet for our girls," remarked head coach Doug Humphrey. "They got to compete in events they don't normally compete in.

Diving
Â
In diving action, Hannah Brummel swept the competition, taking first in both the 1 and 3-meter dives. Brummel had a dive score of 229.40 in the 3-meter and 216.65 in the 1-meter.

Join the UNI Swimming and Diving team next Friday, January 20 at 5 p.m. for Senior Day. The Panthers will honor nine seniors before the meet against MVC rival, Illinois State.
