Norem, Truniger Lead Panthers At Hawkeye Invite

RESULTS
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa cross country program hit the ground running to open the 2016 season, notching two top-10 finishes on the women's side at the Hawkeye Invitational. The men's team placed seventh in the 6K while the women took third place in the 3K.
Junior Ashley Norem was UNI's highest finisher, earning fifth place overall out of 83 competitors, completing the 3,000 meter course in 10:25.30. Hannah Truniger kicked off her collegiate campaign with an eighth place finish, coming in as UNI's second runner with a time of 10:30.30.
The Panther women brought in three more finishers in the top-25 with Kelsey Kirchoff and Brette Correy coming across the finish line in 21st (10:42.50) and 22nd (10:43.20), respectively. Rounding out UNI's top five runners and the top-25 was true freshman Alyssa Williams, who placed 24th with a time of 10:44.80.
On the men's side, Bailey Wetherell put together a strong race to start his junior season, placing 18th overall out of 90 runners in the 6,000 meters, recording a time of 18:41.60.
UNI tagged on three more top-50 finishes from the Panther men, including true freshman CJ May coming in 38th place with a time of 18:55.20. Jacob Day finished with a time of 19:05.10 in 43rd with senior Dylan Eigenberger coming in 47th with a time of 19:13.30.
The Panthers will return to the course after a break in action on Sept. 23 when they compete at the Badger Classic in Madison, Wis.
