UNI Opens Season With 0-0 Draw at North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team opened regular season play Friday afternoon, traveling to North Dakota for a match with the Fighting Hawks that ended in a 0-0 draw in overtime.
The Panthers dominated the box score in the match, securing more possession and out shooting the Hawks on goal ten to six. Despite having control of the game, quality goal-keeping kept the Panthers off the board. UNI had a chance at the end of regulation to pull out the win, but were unable to put a rebound off a save into the back of the net.
Sarah Brandt led the Panthers with five shots on goal, which puts her second all-time in Panther history on shots on goal in a game. Hannah McDevitt also put two shots on frame, while Haley Kerns, Sydney Hayden, and Brynell Yount all put one shot on frame. Defensively for the Panthers, Whitney Blunt saved six shots, while composing her back line.
The Panthers are back on the field this Sunday at North Dakota State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and live stats will be available via North Dakota State athletics website.
