Double-Digit Scorers Propel Panthers Past Bradley, 65-41

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team turned in a 65-41 win over the Bradley Braves Friday night, improving to 17-9 overall and 12-3 in conference play.
Madison Weekly led the team in scoring for the 10th consecutive game, posting 19 points, three rebounds and three assists. Amber Sorenson knocked in 17 points, going 7-for-13 from the field with Stephanie Davison rounding out UNI's double-digit scorers with 11.
UNI shot just 14-percent from the three in the first half, going into the third quarter with just a nine-point lead, but the Panthers went 7-for-14 during the final two quarters to pull away and claim another victory.
Bradley scored the first points of the game, but that would be their only lead of the game. The Braves kept it close in the first quarter, with Danielle Brewer hitting a three-pointer with 20 seconds left on the clock to make it a one-point game at 12-11.
The Panthers opened the second quarter on a 13-0 run that included six straight points from Weekly to go up 27-13, holding the Braves to only three made field goals in the quarter. The Panthers headed into halftime up nine points after forcing eight turnovers in the second quarter alone.
Sorenson scored 11 of her 17 points in the third quarter, including going a perfect 3-for-3 from the arc. UNI finished the quarter shooting 85-percent from the three to take a 54-29 lead heading into the fourth.
Bradley didn't score a single field goal from the three-point line in the final two quarters, finishing the game shooting just 12-percent from the arc. The Braves struggles from deep allowed UNI to take advantage of its hot hand, giving them its largest lead of the game at 32 points with 5:20 left in the game. UNI closed out the game by running down the clock, giving them their 65-41 win.
UNI will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 28 when they host Loyola at 2 p.m. Fans are asked to arrive to the game early as the team honors its four seniors prior to tip-off.
