UNI Soccer Adds 10 To 2016 Roster

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer program will add 10 newcomers to an already talented 2016 roster, announced today by UNI head coach Chris Logan.
Following a season in which the Panthers finished their season in the semifinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament for the third time in school history and graduated a class of seven, Logan is prepped and ready to continue the growth of UNI soccer.
The Panthers will see eight new Panthers from the state of Iowa competing for playing time in 2016 along with two from Illinois and Minnesota.
UNI finished last season 7-9-5 overall, while holding a 6-2-1 record at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex. UNI landed six Panthers on the All-Conference squad following the regular season, the most in school history.
2016 Soccer Newcomers
Jamie Althiser, Forward/Midfield, Moline, Ill. (Moline HS)
High School: Lettered in soccer and basketball at Moline High School … two-time All-Metro Player of the Year … was a first-team all-state selection in 2015 … three-time all-conference honoree … was named the best offensive player for her team from 2013-2015 … also earned Team MVP in 2014 and 2015 … led her team to back-to-back conference championships … was a part of the honor roll and National Honor Society all four years.
Personal: Daughter of Cynthia Remaly and Anthony Althiser … has two siblings, Brandon and Jacob … hobbies include hanging out with friends and family … chose UNI because she always wanted to attend the school and loves everything about it.
Michelle Austin, Forward, Mahtomedi, Minn. (Mahtomedi HS)
High School: Four-year letter winner in soccer … two-time all-conference selection … named to the all-metro and all-state teams in 2015 … was a team captain her senior season … helped her team to a third place finish in state in 2015 … led her team to four consecutive conference championships and two section championships … totaled 34 goals and 21 assists at Mahtomedi High School … was a part of honor roll all four years of high school.
Personal: Daughter to Ron and Jill Austin … hobbies include hiking and rollerblading … selected UNI because of the good business school, competitive soccer program, and it is the perfect distance from home.
Lauren Bleeker, Midfield/Forward, Sioux City, Iowa (Bishop Heelan HS)
High School: Lettered in soccer, track and cross country … two-time all-conference selection and conference offensive MVP … was second-team all-state in 2014 … earned Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2013 … had eight goals and 12 assists in 2015, leading her team to a state championship … also scored nine goals and eight assists as a junior … helped her team to three conference championships and state finals (2013) and state semifinal appearances (2014) … was a state qualifier in track and cross country, earning team MVP in cross country … was a member of the National Honor Society and the honor roll.
Personal: Daughter of Shantelle and Greg … hobbies include running, reading, and writing … chose UNI to be her school because it was a comfortable fit for her, and likes how it is a state university on a compact campus.
Allison Dmyterko, Midfield/Forward, Council Bluffs, Iowa (Lewis Central HS)
High School: Lettered in soccer at Lewis Central … two-time all-district, three-time all-conference and three-time all-city first-team selection … earned first-team all-state in 2014 … was also an all-state honorable mention honoree in 2013 … is a top-five stats leader at Lewis Central … led her team to three conference championships and two city championships … scored 18 goals and eight assists in 2015 … added 19 goals and seven assists in 2014.
Personal: Daughter of Nick and Nicole Dmyterko … has one sibling, Hannah … volunteers with Operation Others and the Lewis Central Adopt a Family program … chose UNI because she loved the atmosphere and felt it was the right fit both academically and athletically.
Carly Ekstrom, Midfield, Cedar Falls, Iowa (Cedar Falls HS)
High School: Lettered in soccer at Cedar Falls High School as a center midfielder … was second team all-conference as a junior … selected to the all-regional team as a sophomore … also selected to the all-conference honorable mention squad her freshman season … was a part of the honor roll all four years.
Personal: Daughter of Dan and Janet Ekstrom … has two siblings, Christine and Eric … hobbies include hanging out with friends and listening to music … chose UNI because she wanted to be close to home so that her family could watch her play after growing up watching the Panthers.
Sydney Hayden, Forward, Robins, Iowa (John F. Kennedy HS)
High School: Four-year letter winner in soccer … two-time first-team all-conference selection … earned second-team all-district her sophomore year … named first-team all-state and first-team all-district as a junior ... led the team in goals and assists … was a part of a state championship team in 2014 … part of the National Honor Society … selected as the Vice President of student government … also a member of the National Council of Youth Leadership.
Personal: Daughter of Kirk and Brenda Hayden … spends her free time enjoying volunteering, reading, running, baking and knitting … chose UNI because of the size of the school and because it will be a good fit for her academically.
Delaney Johnson, Forward, Iowa City, Iowa (City HS)
High School: Lettered in soccer, track, basketball and volleyball … earned all-conference in soccer in 2014 … was the team's leading goal scorer for three consecutive seasons … holds the school record for career goals with 17 in 34 games … was also a three-time all-conference selection in track and field, winning events at the Drake Relays and state championship meet … is ranked in the City High Top-10 list in three events in track and field … is a member of the National Honor Society and the honor Roll.
Personal: Daughter of Marla and Jeff … father, Jeff, played golf at UNI … hobbies include playing sports and spending time with friends … chose UNI because of the campus, good business school and the opportunity to play Division I athletics.
Katherine Olson, Defender, Iowa City, Iowa (Iowa City West HS)
High School: Four year varsity starter for soccer … named team captain her junior and senior season … was named second-team all-conference in 2014 … earned first-team all-conference as a senior … led her team to a state championship in 2015 … part of the National Honor Society and the Youth Salute Program.
Personal: Daughter to Jeff and Brigitte Olson … has been a volunteer coach since her freshmen year for her club team … chose UNI because it is a great business school and it is close, but still far from home.
Madison DePrenger, Forward, Iowa City, Iowa (City HS)
High School: Four year varsity letter winner for soccer … was first-team all-conference in 2015, and was also the team assist leader … lettered in track and field, earning first-team all-conference as a junior … was a team captain in 2016 … was on the honor roll all four years and was a volunteer at the Domestic Violence Intervention Program.
Personal: Daughter of Morgan and Leslie DePrenger … enjoys spending time with family and friends in her free time … chose UNI because of the size of the school and the excellent academic programs.
Jenny Wick, Midfield/Forward, Iowa City, Iowa (Regina HS)
High School: Lettered in soccer, softball and basketball … helped her team to three consecutive state tournaments, including two quarterfinal appearances … earned first-team all-state as a senior … named a team captain in 2015 … also selected second-team all-state in 2013 … scored 30 goals and 14 assists in 2015 along with 29 goals and 17 assists in 2013 … led her club team to a state championship in 2013 and a Nationals appearance … team captain for her club team for four years … named her club team MVP for the 2015-16 season … part of the honor roll at Iowa City Regina.
