UNI Swimming and Diving Starts Two-Meet Road Trip

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa--The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving's teams will start a two meet road series this weekend.
Â
The swimming team will head to the Big Challenge, hosted by the University of Kansas, while the diving team heads east to the TYR Invite, hosted by Northwestern University.
The Big Challenge will start with preliminary rounds on Friday at 10 a.m. Teams competing at the Big Challenge include Iowa State, Nebraska, Arkansas Little-Rock and Northern Arizona and Kansas in Capitol Federal Natatorium.

The Panther divers will go up against competition from Grand Canyon, Saint Louis, Truman State, UIC, and Michigan State at the TYR Invite. Preliminary rounds are set to start at 9 a.m. each day. Â

Last Time in the Pool

The Panthers swam to victory over the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits, 205-94 at home on Nov. 11. The Panthers had multiple first place finishes. Alyssa Deuso tied her personal best in the 1-meter diving, with a dive score of 218.92.

Last Year at the Big Challenge
Â
The Panther team broke five school records at the Big Challenge last season. Molly Lembezeder broke records in the 50 and 100 Freestyles, with times of 23.36 and 51.04. Aftin Phyfe broke the record in the 200 IM, with a time of 2:07.15. Lembezeder teamed up with Crystal Florman, Autumn Roepsch and Rachel Siebenaller to squeak by the record board, giving a new school record of 1:34.82 in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The team was able to secure a Top-10 finish. Madison Rinaldi, Roepsch, Florman and Lembezeder teamed up to finish five hundredths of a second away from breaking into the Top-10 in the 200 Medley Relay. The team swam a time of 1:45.52

Lembezeder and Herrmann were both named to the Big Challenge All-Star team.

Alyssa Deuso and Hannah Brummel rounded out the Panthers, with scores of 178 and 188.85 in the 3-meter competition. In 1-meter competition, Hannah Brummel and Alyssa Deuso rounded out the Panthers with scores of 198.95 and 195.65, respectively.
