The Basics: The University of Northern Iowa is set to take on the Iowa State Cyclones on Tuesday, Nov. 15 on the road. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. CT inside Hilton Coliseum.

About Iowa State: Iowa State opened its season with a 77-60 win over UC-Santa Barbara in Ames. The Cyclones return four of their five starters from last season, including guard Seanna Johnson, who averaged 17.0 points per game in 2015-16. The Cyclones went 13-17 last season and 5-13 in the Big 12 Play, eventually falling in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. Head coach Bill Fennelly enters his 22nd year at Iowa State with an overall record of 447-223.

Last time against Iowa State: The UNI Panthers put up a second half rally against Iowa State last season on Dec. 2 in the McLeod Center, but eventually fell 84-75. Madison Weekly put up 26 points and a career-high eight rebounds with Ellie Herzberg also scoring in double-figures with 12.
Season Openers: UNI is 26-23 all-time in season openers since the program started in 1968 and 26-19 all-time in home openers. The Panthers are 7-3 in season openers under the direction of Tanya Warren after their 69-62 win over IUPUI (11/11).
Back at it: Sophomore Ellie Herzberg opened the season with a career-high 22 points. Her point total against the Jaguars (11/11) beat her previous best of 20, set in UNI's win over Bradley in 2015. Herzberg's nine made field goals is a career-high, beating her previous best of seven made against Creighton in 2014.
Newbie: Megan Maahs contributed six points in her first collegiate game, helping UNI to a 69-62 win over IUPUI (11/11). She shot 3-for-5 from the field, adding two boards and a steal.
Assistance: Angie Davison finished the game against IUPUI (11/11) with a career-high four assists. Her previous best of three was last set against Creighton in 2014.
From the Arc: UNI held IUPUI (11/11) to below 20-percent from the three-point line in the third and fourth quarters with the Jaguars going a combined 2-for-14 in the second half.
Quality Opponents: Out of UNI's 20 opponents, 11 played in the postseason in 2016.
New Additions: Head coach Tanya Warren signed five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on early signing day to the 2017-18 roster on Nov. 9.
Preseason Recognition: The Panther women's basketball team was picked to finish second in MVC play during the 2016-17 season. UNI has been voted in the top-half of the standings in the MVC preseason poll nine out of the 10 years that head coach Tanya Warren has been at the helm. Madison Weekly was named preseason All-Conference.
Winning Seasons: The 2015-16 season marked the seventh straight season the Panthers have won 17 or more games. It marked the 14th season since the women's basketball program joined NCAA Division I basketball in 1982 that the Panthers have achieved the mark.

Balanced Attack: UNI was led by a pair of seniors with Madison Weekly and Angie Davison both contributing 12 points. The Panthers had 12 players see action against Maryville (11/7) with 11 scoring at least a point. Megan Maahs put in seven points with two blocks with Hannah Schonhardt leading the team in boards with seven.
Second Quarter Success: Davison scored seven of her 12 points in the second quarter while the Panthers held Maryville to just one field goal in the period. UNI outrebounded Maryville 13-4 in the second quarter also holding the Saints to nill from the arc.
Valuable Experience: UNI outscored Maryville 18-4 in the third quarter with the Panthers forcing seven turnovers. In the fourth quarter, true freshman Abby Gerrits scored all seven of her points with Dariann Garrison-Nickerson adding six.
At the Top: UNI won the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title with its 61-48 win over Evansville (3/5/16), its second regular season championship under the direction of Tanya Warren after also winning during the 2010-11 season.
Post-Season Play: UNI's win over Nebraska on Thursday, March 17, 2016 was its second WNIT win in school history. The Panthers "Sweet 16" round game against South Dakota (3/24/16) is the furthest UNI has advanced in post-season play since its WBI championship game run during the 2011-12 season.
Conference Success: UNI finished the 2015-16 season with 15 conference wins, the second most league victories in program history, marking the eighth season with 12 or more Valley wins.
