UNI Opens With 74-37 Victory Over Coe

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team opened its 2016-27 season with a 74-37 triumph over the Coe Kohawks in the McLeod Center.
UNI shot 52.6 percent from the floor and the Panther bench outscored the Kohawk bench, 45-11.
UNI was led in scoring by Jeremy Morgan and Bennett Koch as each tallied 11 points. Morgan scored all 11 of his points in the first half as he drained a trio of three-pointers and tallied four steals.
The Panthers used a 17-0 run in the first half to turn a 5-4 lead into a 22-4 advantage. Morgan drained three 3-pointers during the run and accounted for 11 of the 17 points. UNI's biggest lead in the first half came 43-12 with 1:47 left in the first half.
Head coach Ben Jacobson used 13 players in the second half as the Panthers outscored the Kohawks, 22-15, in the final 20 minutes.
UNI will head to Orlando, Fla., to take part in the Tire Pros Invitational Nov. 17-20. UNI will take on the Arizona State Sun Devils on Thurs., Nov. 17, at 3:30 p.m.
NOTES: UNI's 37-point victory margin is tied for the 20th-best victory margin in school history ... UNI has won six straight matchups vs. Coe ... it marked the 44th time in the Ben Jacobson head coaching era that the Panthers had held a team under 50 points - UNI is 43-1 in those contests ... UNI has won 36 straight games when holding the opposition to less than 50 points.
