Panthers Prepped For Bradley Classic

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa cross country program will take part in the Bradley Classic on Friday, Oct. 16 on the Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill.
The men's team will compete in the men's 8,000 meter run starting at 4:25 p.m. while the women will run in the 6,000 meter race at 5:05 p.m. On the men's side, the Panthers will be one of 27 teams competing while the women will be going up against 29 other teams.
The Bradley Classic will serve as a final regular season meet before taking on the Missouri Valley Conference in Evansville, Ind. on Oct. 31 for the MVC Championships. The Panthers will get a taste of their competition in Peoria with four other Valley schools competing in the Bradley Classic.
UNI has had a successful run this season, including a strong performance at the Norte Dame Invitational on Oct. 2. The women scored in seventh place, while the men notched a fourth place finish.
Kelsey Kirchoff ran a time of 17:46.80 for another top-10 finish, which was a new 5,000 meter personal-best for the junior, keeping her ranked sixth all-time at UNI. Callie Matthews and Hanna Martin rounded out the Top-30 finishers for the Panther women, with 26th and 30th places respectively. Matthews landed at No. 20 on the UNI all-time list and Martin found her home at No. 23.
Racing on the men's side, Trai Bunch paced in at 15th place out of 146 runners with a time of 25:12.12. Bailey Wetherell followed in 17th place with a time of 25:13.20, setting a new 45-second personal-best. Newcomer Dylan Eigenberger rounded out the UNI men top-35 finishers, placing 31st overall in his first race as a Panther with a time of 25:24.90. Ben Fick and Shane Kirchoff both finished inside the top-50.
