Panthers drop conference opener to Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, MO -- The Northern Iowa women's soccer team faced their first conference match-up of the season against the Missouri State Bears. The match kicked off at 5p.m.
The Panthers opened the scoring in the 19th minute when sophomore Brady Clark touched a pass after a rebound to Maddie Welch who finished the play for the goal and 1-0 lead.
The Bears didn't answer the Panthers until the 32nd minute. Missouri State's Kelsey Goff was given a penalty kick after a foul occured inside the goalie box. Goff took advantage of the PK and knotted the score at 1-1. In the 52nd minute the Bears would score again. Shelby Stewart passed to Molly Brewer who scored after a deflection. Missouri State would cap their scoring for the evening when Stewart would once more contribute an assist to Molly Huber for a goal in the 85th minute.
MSU out-shot UNI 13 to four and kicked two corners to the Panthers zero.
Panthers goalkeeper Nicole Postel took the loss, allowing the three MSU goals while recording two saves. Bears goalkeeper Jessica Perry recorded the win, notching two saves versus one goal against.
Brady Clark, Sarah McHugh and Annie Dale all recorded one shot attempt. Caitlyn Fuller, Grace Schield and Amber Nieland all appeared off the bench for the Panthers.
UNI will be back in action on Sunday, September 29th against IUPUI for a non-conference game. The match begins at 1p.m.
