
UNI Posts 74-65 Victory Over Saint Louis

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team came away with a victory today over the Saint Louis Billikens, defeating them 74-65 at home. The Panthers are now 3-6 overall.
Amber Sorenson led the Panthers with a career-high 17 points while Madison Weekly added 15. Jen Keitel and Hannah Schonhardt also reached double figures, scoring 16 and 12, respectively.
The Panthers jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in just the first two minutes of the game, capped off by a three-pointer from Madison Weekly. Saint Louis ended the run when Sadie Stipanovich found the basket on a layup to make the score 7-2 with 17:47 left in the half.
The Billikens tied the game at 9-9 with 14:31 on the clock, but Amber Sorenson knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 12-9 to give the lead back to UNI. The Panthers held a 18-13 lead with 11:12 left in the first half after Erin Dohnalek made her way into the lane for a strong jumper.
Saint Louis went on a 7-0 run to tie the score 18-18 with 7:12 left in the game with SLU scoring four straight points in the paint. The Billikens took its first lead of the game at the 5:32 mark when Denisha Womack hit a free throw to give them a 23-22 lead.
The Panthers went into halftime trailing by two points after Saint Louis gained a 29-27 lead when Desirae Ball hit a jumper with 1:23 remaining in the first half.
Saint Louis held a four point lead heading into the first media timeout of the second half. Brooke Brown hit a three-pointer to open the half, but the Billikens scored four unanswered points to make the score 35-30.
Sorenson hit her fourth three-pointer of the game with 14:44 on the clock to put UNI within two points of the Billikens. After trading scores, the Panthers put themselves within one point after Weekly knocked down a trey to make the score 44-43.
The shots kept falling for the Panthers when Angie Davison scored her first points as a Panther, hitting a key three-pointer to tie the score 46-46 with 13:28 on the clock. UNI took its first lead since the first half with 10:35 left in the game when Jen Keitel scored a turnaround jumper to make the score 48-46.
With 5:31 left in the half, Keitel tied the score off a deep jumper to make the score 54-54. On the next offensive drive for the Panthers, Brooke Brown drove strong through the lane for a layup to give UNI the 56-54 lead with less than 5:00 on the clock.
Dohnalek gave UNI a four point lead after she sliced through the lane for a tough layup under pressure. Keitel followed it up with two free throws to give UNI a 62-56 lead with 3:19 remaining. The Panthers gained an eight point advantage with 1:18 on the clock when Keitel hit two more free throws to make the score 68-60.
Saint Louis was forced to foul due to the gap in the last minute of the game, with UNI picking up the 74-65 victory over the Billikens.
Post-Game Notes vs. Saint Louis
Amber Sorenson reached double-figures for the second time in her career today against Saint Louis. The sophomore finished with 17 points.
Angie Davison scored her first collegiate points against the Billikens, knocking down a key three-pointer in the second half to tie the score 46-46.
Madison Weekly has reached double figures in three out of the last four games for UNI. She finished with 15 against Saint Louis.
UNI's bench accounted for 40 of the Panthers 74 points, outscoring the SLU bench 40-11.
UNI finished with four players reaching double figures against the Billikens. Jen Keitel, Hannah Schonhardt, Madison Weekly and Amber Sorenson all scored 10 or more points.
