UNI Streak Goes to 11; Panthers Top Drake, 74-55

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team made a season-high 12 three-point shots to run to a 74-55 win over Drake and extend its school-record win-streak to 11 Saturday afternoon in the McLeod Center.
Six different Panthers connected from behind the arc, and Katelin Oney, Rachel Madrigal and Jacqui Kalin each made three.
Kalin led UNI (19-5, 12-1 MVC) with 15 points, Madrigal finished with 14 and Oney had 11 points and five steals for the Panthers. Amber Kirschbaum led UNI with 11 rebounds.
Kristin Turk led Drake (12-12, 6-7 MVC) with 14 points, and Rachael Hackbarth and Kayla Person each finished with nine. Person led the Bulldogs with nine rebounds.
Drake scored first, but the Panthers held the Bulldogs without a field goal for nearly seven minutes and took an 11-4 lead over DU when Oney hit her second three of the game at the 13-minute mark.
Senior Erin Brocka knocked down a three at 11:28 to put UNI in front by double digits for the first time, 16-6. The Panther lead stayed between seven and 10 points until a jumper from Hackbarth trimmed the UNI advantage to 21-15 with 7:05 on the clock.
UNI scored the game's next seven points to stretch its lead to 28-15. After Amber Wollschlager scored to end the UNI run, the Panthers put the game's next four points on the board to take a 32-17 lead with 2:21 left in the half.
The Panther lead stayed between 12 and 15 points until the break, where UNI led 37-24.
Person hit a three on Drake's first possession of the second half, but a jumper from Boeck and threes from Kalin and Madrigal gave UNI a quick eight-point boost and a 45-27 lead with 17:43 remaining.
UNI led by at least 15 points the rest of the way, and the Panthers would lead by as many as 26 points on the way to the victory.
The Panthers shot 22-of-58 (37.9 percent) from the floor, including 12-of-24 (50 percent) from behind the arc. UNI shot 18-of-21 (85.7 percent) from the free-throw line.
Drake shot 18-of-49 (36.7 percent), including 3-of-12 (25 percent) from three-point range. The Bulldogs were 16-of-18 (88.9 percent) from the free-throw line.
Drake committed 20 turnovers in the game, resulting in 20 points for the Panthers. Drake converted UNI's 13 turnovers into six points.
DU held a slight 36-35 rebounding advantage.

NOTE: The game was UNI's Pink Zone game to promote breast cancer awareness. Prior to the game, UNI head coach Tanya Warren pledged $25 for each three the Panthers made. UNI's 12 threes result in a $300 donation from
