Panthers in Fourth Heading Into Final Round at MVC Championship

Newburgh, Ind. -- The University of Northern Iowa women's golf team is in fourth place after the second round of the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship. The Panthers dropped one spot in the team race from third place after the opening round. UNI has posted a team card of 313-315--628 through the first 36 holes, putting them 20 strokes behind current leader Illinois State.
UNI was picked seventh in the pre-championship poll of league coaches, but is currently only one stroke behind Missouri State for third place.
Sophomore Brittany Atterbury had a tremendous second round at Rolling Hills Country Club, firing a 74 to record the second-best round of the day by any competitor. Atterbury shot up to tenth place on the individual leaderboard and she is now 11-over par for the tournament with an 81-74--155 card.
The next three Panthers are Ann Arnason (159), all in the top 20 of the individual standings. Abby Bermel posted a second-round 81 to get to 166 for the tournament.
Illinois State fired the team-low round of the tournament with Monday's total of 301, and the Redbirds hold a seven-stroke lead over second place Drake heading into Tuesday's final round. Laura Harris of Illinois State continues to lead the individual field as she fired a one-over-par 73 on Monday. Harris (72-73--145) sits two strokes ahead of Drake's Olivia Lansing (147).
Illinois State is looking to become just the second school in MVC history to win three-straight women's golf championships.
The third and final round will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
