Panthers Take Fourth Place at 2010 MVC Championship

Newburgh, Ind. -- The University of Northern Iowa women's golf team captured fourth place at the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship by recording its best team round of the tournament on the final day. UNI posted a 310 for the final round after shooting rounds of 313 and 315 to open the event at Rolling Hills Country Club.
UNI matched its fourth-place finish from the 2009 MVC Championship. The Panthers were picked to finish seventh at this year's event in a pre-championship poll of the league's coaches.
The final day of competition saw a struggle for the third, fourth and fifth team positions between UNI, Indiana State and Missouri State. The Sycamores took third place with a solid team round of 304. UNI was able to beat Missouri State by four strokes after outshooting the Bears 310-315 over the final 18 holes.
Sophomores Blair Bonner and Brittany Atterbury tied in eighth place overall with 54-hole totals of 231. Bonner fired a 73 on Tuesday to finish with a 76-82-73--231 (+15) card. She recorded three birdies on the front nine to get off to a blistering start, and her final-round 73 was the second-lowest round of the day among all individuals.
Atterbury finished with an 81-74-76--231 (+15) card. She birdied four holes on the final day to total eight birdies for the tournament.
Senior Ann Arnason closed out her UNI career by taking a share of 18th place. Arnason carded a 79 on the final day to finish at 22-over-par 238. Sophomore Katie Tabbert finished in a tie for 21st place with a score of 239 and redshirt freshman Abby Bermel tied for 40th with a total of 249 strokes.
Illinois State won the team title by 14 strokes over second-place Drake, becoming only the second school in MVC history to win three consecutive women's golf championships. The Redbirds shot 307-301-301--909. Drake's Olivia Lansing claimed medalist honors by a three-stroke margin after posting an even-par 72 for the final round. She finished at three-over par 219 for the tournament.
