CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa wrestling team earned their second victory of the weekend, taking down Western Wrestling Conference foe North Dakota State 30-6. The Panthers won eight of the ten matches in the dual.
"I thought we wrestled really well today," head coach Brad Penrith said. "We were very consistent and aggressive. There are still things we can improve upon, but I'm very happy with the way we wrestled."
Caleb Flores started the match off at 125 pounds with a 13-7 decision over No. 32-ranked Justin Solberg.
After a Bison forfeit at 133 pounds, NDSU's No. 29-ranked Ryan Adams notched a 6-2 decision win over Charlie Ettelson to pull the Bison within 9-3.
That would be as close as the Bison would get, as Trent Washington outlasted Andrey Pastselov 5-3 in a sudden victory match at 149 pounds. Washington notched a takedown with one second remaining in the first overtime period to take the win.
Tyson Reiner continued the winning for the Panthers at 157 pounds, notching a 16-10 win over Vince Salminen.
David Bonin picked up a 4-2 win over Tyler Johnson at 165 pounds followed by a 13-6 win from Jarion Beets at 174 pounds.
In the second overtime match of the day, NDSU's Kenny Moenkedick scored a takedown with 34 seconds left in the overtime period to earn an 8-6 win over Scott Hazen at the 184-pound slot.
Dustin Bauman then notched a 4-0 victory over Drew Ross at 197 pounds before Christian Brantley pinned Joe Arthur in 6:11 to wrap up the dual for the Panthers.
