Mat Clark, Decathlon
On his first day performance:
"I started out really well in the 100 meters and long jump and then I kind of went downhill in my next three events. I still did well enough though to keep myself in the game and hopefully tomorrow will be better."
Outlook for day two:
"Lately, all the progress I've had in practice is in my second day events. I just need to get through the hurdles and stay relaxed through the discus and pole vault and then just do what I normally do in the javelin and 1500 meters. I've been practicing well in the hurdles, discus and vault lately so hopefully I can make up some points in those three."
Tyler Mulder, 800 meters
"On today's 800 meter race:
"I just wanted to qualify for the next round, finish in the top three. I got that done, so I'm happy. The Baylor guy (Chris Gowell) kinda pushed the pace towards the end so I had to push it a little more than I wanted. Overall it was a good race, I felt good and I feel good going into tomorrow."
Cory Goos, 400-meter hurdles
On today's 400-meter hurdle race:
"It felt really good today. I got out really well, but I relaxed too much on hurdles three, four and five. I really had to kick it into overdrive and picked it up at the end. It's also great to hit a new personal best time."
On advancing into the semifinal round:
"It's a good step, I don't want to say I expected to make it, but I knew I could. It's a step forward and now I just need to go out tomorrow and do it again."
