Drake Relays Champion Sprint Medley Relay Quotes
Tyler Mulder:
On his anchor leg against Iowa's Adam Hairston:
“It wasn't my best race ever, but I mean it's all about strategy sometimes in the 800. I just bided my time and then did what needed to do to win.”
On his 800 finish:
“I wanted to save up for a nice kick. I knew they were going to push it from behind because we were coming in from the front part of the race. I bided my time so I had that extra kick over everybody else”
Cory Goos:
On getting the school's first sprint medley title:
“It's real important. This is our first Drake Relays title. To win this one was really important. It feels good to finally have those flags.”
“It's pretty impressive that it's the first one. I mean we've had history of great sprinters and 400 runners and as well as middle distance. To finally come out here and win this one it says a lot for the group of guys we have here in our program.
On team of all Iowa high school graduates::
“It's pretty fun to come back and win with it. It really gets the fans into it for us. It's almost like a home meet for us. People cheer - family, friends.”
On first legs of the race:
“We kind of had little hiccup on the handoff (between Herring and Reid). Jarred ran well in first leg, I just had to keep pace. I was kind of hoping Baylor would be in there so we would have someone to pace off of -- somebody to gain ground on.”
On winning his first Drake Relays title:
“I mean, it means so much. I give all thanks to God, my coaches and my teammates. It's just been a wild ride – really, really good running for our team. We work really hard. It feels great just to get a Drake Relays championship after 9 years of running here.”
On winning his first collegiate Drake Relays title:
“It's just exciting, especially coming out of high school and winning. It feels like I'm back at home. I just wanted to come out and do my best. I was blessed to be on a team that could actually compete. And we won it all.”
