Panthers Add Four Regional Qualifying Marks

PANTHERS ADD FOUR MORE REGIONAL QUALIFIERS
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa track and field team added an additional four more athletes to its list of Midwest Regional qualifiers to include Marcin Kazubowski, Lucas Cook, Mike Beese and Emily Prinsen. The Panthers have now qualified 10 events for the NCAA Midwest Regional in addition to two NCAA provisional qualifying scores in the multi-events.
Kazubowski started the day off on the right foot for the Panthers, regionally qualifying in the javelin. Kazubowski heaved 206-03, well above his season-best of 196-10, to earn his second trip to the Midwest Regional meet.
On the women's side, Prinsen also notched a spot to the Midwest Regional meet in the javelin throw, tossing a career-best 145-05.
Cook also punched his ticket to the regional meet, heaving a season-best 187-08 in the hammer throw. Tanner Hurt took third in the hammer with a toss of 176-06.
Beese was the final Panther to qualify for the Midwest Regional, clearing 17-00.75 in the pole vault. The mark shattered his previous personal-best of 16-07.25 in the outdoor pole vault.
Jerred Herring took the runner-up spot both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, clocking in at season-best 10.66 in the 100 meters and 21.66 in the 200 meters. Fellow freshman Giorgio Giurdanella finished fifth in the 200 meters (22.04) followed by Wojiech Jurkowski in sixth (22.66).
Terrance Reid took top spot in the 400 meter dash, narrowly missing the regional qualifying standard. Reid clocked in at 47.21, just one-hundredth of a second short of the regional qualifying mark of 47.20. Ryan Grenko took the runner-up spot, finishing in a season-best 47.98. Beau Dielschneider took third with a time of 48.99.
The Panthers took the top four spots in the 800 meter run, with Andrew Perkins leading the charge, finishing in 1:52.76. Mike Craddick took third (1:53.79) and Jack Ogden finished in fourth (1:54.26).
Jurkowski took the top spot in the 110-meter hurdles clocking in at a season-best 14.96. Tyler Dodd took second, finishing in 15.66, followed by Troy Bacon in third (15.86).
Greg Offerman recorded the top 400 meter hurdle time, finishing in 52.78.
Adam Pinckney finished close behind with a toss of 49-07.25.
Travis Leuer took the top spot in the high jump clearing 6-08.75.
WOMEN'S RESULTS
Jamie Wieck finished third in the 100 meter dash, clocking in a season-best 12.45. In the 200 meter dash, Kayla Selby also took third place, clocking in a season-best 26.43.
Ali Selenke in fifth (59.35).
Ellen Kindelsperger knocked three seconds off her previous season-best time in the 800 meters to finish in 2:14.71 for second place.
Caedryn Schrunk took 10 seconds off her previous career-best in the 1500 meter race to finish in a top time of 4:38.20.
Heather Kessler also recorded a career-best in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking in at 14.89 for second place.
Dani Stipe leaped a season-best 19-06.75 in the long jump to take the runner-up spot. Wieck finished third with a jump of 18-07.00.
The sister duo of Sarah and Traci Harms finished one-two in the shot put with Sarah heaving 44-02.75 and Traci tossing a season-best 42-11.75
Courtney Landers took the top spot in the hammer throw, heaving a season-best 176-11.
The Panthers return to the track Wednesday as they head to Des Moines, Iowa to take part in the 100th running of the Drake Relays. Competition opens Wednesday, April 22 with the multi-events.
