Panthers Fall in Double Overtime to Northern Illinois

WATERLOO, Iowa- For the third time in as many games the University of Northern Iowa took its opponent into double overtime. UNI knotted the score 2-2 in the 66th minute, but Northern Illinois' Kelsey Passaglia ended the Panthers hopes for their first win with a goal at the 105:24 mark of the second overtime.
Northern Illinois struck first as Thea Johnson found the back of the net at the 15:34 mark of the first period. NIU extended its lead to 2-0 when Becca Ford scored in the 18th minute.
UNI's Nichole Ferlito led the Panthers comeback effort as she put the first point on the board at the 30:42 mark. Chelsie Hochstedler knotted the score at 2-2 in the 66th minute.
UNI's goalkeeper Lauren Potzman registered 10 saves in the game.
UNI (0-3-1) will return to action Sunday, Sept. 7 against in-state rival Iowa State. The game will be played at the Mark Messersmith Track and Field Complex on the UNI campus at 3 p.m.
